Good news and not surprising that the Foundation would not "acknowledge" yet because they certainly don't have the $$ in hand yet...they will announce it once the $ is in hand. Great news!!

Am I understanding the article correctly? The Foundation used some of Mr. Wolfe's prototypes to market the idea and then told him he wasn't doing the final?

WOW.

And they'll likely want to do a prepared announcement, possibly a press conference with the donor, I would guess.

There are two different foundations in play here.

The Larry Legend Foundation is the student organization on campus that is leading the charge to get the statue. They found and used Wolfe's prototypes. Then you have the Indiana State Foundation, which is their fundraising arm. They apparently found a donor to foot the bill, but the donor will only cut the check if they agree to let them use their own artist.

This is probably the case...sort of. With the Larry the Legend Foundation being a student organization it makes it a little different and difficult. My assumption would be that the "students" used Mr. Wolfe's example to try to raise funds, and hence the Foundation staff used that example, if I remember right it was on the website or facebook. But I am certain there was not contract or requirements of hte foundation to use Mr. Wolfe. Besides, when the donor that has supposedly stepped forward decided to give the money and make the stipulation, it is entirely possible he looked at the example and said, we have to find someone else, "I don't like this example." Or something like that...of course that is speculation, but I can see it going down like that because if I had $150,000 K laying around and wanted to pay for a statue I might decide that I want a specific sculptor to do the work??

Thanks for clearing that up.

Let's just hope that it actually ends up being a bigger statue than the one of Magic Johnson at MSU!!!
