Down to 5 candidates. Other than that, not much of an update.

Using deductive reasoning, I'm going to assume Karras is one since he said some are still playing. Marian plays in the NAIA championship this Thursday I believe. Could also mean we're after someone on NDSU's staff as they're still alive in the FCS playoffs. NDSU, Eastern Washington, Georgia Southern and Sam Houston State are all still alive in FCS. Outside of that, you've got half the country bowl eligbile at the FBS level.

Nothing in the rule book that states the announcement can't be made WITHOUT the candidate being present. It's nice that a few of you have begun to like Ted Karras. As I recently said, if you live in Indy, you have been flooded with nice comments about him since day one and I watched his speech to the fans before they left for their first-round playoff game and he is just a good voice for his program. I simply have enough confidence in Ron to pick a great candidate that no matter who the final five are, we'll have a good man. He (RP) has done a remarkably good job finding coaches already and with a unusually small budget for those people so my guess is he will get it right. I will anxiously await his press conference when the right time comes.

Very few hiring press conferences are done without the candidate present.

I'd say it's likely we will know who the hire is before the press conference. Trent took the job on Friday (publicly) and the press conference was on monday or tuesday.

Sure, but ITF said presser this Thursday. I was going off that assumption. I'm sure once the candidate is hired, it will leak from somewhere prior to a presser. Usually does.

I got ya....wasnt reading the posts as a conversation somehow. Did anyone read anything into the fact that he was "Driving" to meet with someone? I realize that could be a rental car from an airport but if not that probably knocks 2 people off who I thought might be on short list.

I guess there is nothing preventing him from being in his office when he said that.

I know that, Jason. Extraordinary situations could call for extreme measures. No one knows the exact day so it is all conjecture anyway. If it was Karras then he could have it on Friday. Anything is possible. We'll see.

Karras, I just don't see it??? I like him, I think it would be great, but I don't see how he leaves Marian...I am probably wrong. But I don't see that the ISU job is that much more interesting or pays that much better. I could be completely wrong.

I honestly don't care who they hire as long as they are tireless recruiters and can develop that talent. That is what will take this program higher. I hate to keep hammering home recruiting, but it's the players that win ball games. We need upgrades in quite a few spots.

Just so everyone knows I am going to have to decline this job, I am coaching a much larger and more important team. So Ron I respectfully decline the offer.
(see the humor people)
Hooyah and HOORAH.

You don't think being the HC at an 'up and coming' FCS school in arguably the BEST FCS conference in the country is MORE INTERESTING than being the HC of an NAIA school?

Unless Karras Jr. is planning on being the next Larry Kehres or John Gagliardi... WHY stay at Marian?

I suppose Karras could be content where he's at.At 47 or 48 years old he might be content to enjoy what he's built there.I think a younger ,hungrier guy is the way RP will go.I will respect Ron's choice,he's done pretty well so far.

Kinda the same thing we were saying about Trent....
