I've been as critical as anyone of ISU, Terre Haute, etc. etc.. BUT:sign-logo:

I know many have mentioned how great last night was ..............I just want to echo that.

I drove over ice covered roads from West Lafayette yesterday -- probably not my most intelligent move.

But it was great --- REALLY great to be in Hulman Center last night. It was awful getting beat, but man the atmosphere was beyond electric most of the night -- the students were incredible -- I think the noise and emotion from the crowd was as high as I have ever seen it since Bird -- including the games vs IU.

9300 there and surely everyone had a great night -- even with the loss.

Congratulations to the team and coaches -- very impressive !

Students and fans -- WOW !

Band and cheerleaders/dance team -- nice job

I would not have missed it for the world !

PS Spoke with Fred Clark at the game and they are working on improving the lighting situation in Hulman Center -- nice guy and I think we're going to see some good things in the future.

Agree! I talked to a lady at work today who said that she went to her first game last night in the 36 years she has lived here!!

Needless to say, she had a great time!

I think Indiana State made a lot more people proud last night than dissapointed - as backward as that sounds. Rarely does a loss unite people - but last night those guys left it all out. Just got beat, every game has a winner and a loser.

Everyone I could hear when they were leaving was saying something like, "Wow, that was a hell of a ballgame." I didn't hear any bitching or complaining, so I'm hoping that we might keep some of those people. Hell, two people could go to that game for $16. What other entertainment option do you have in Terre Haute that can give you entertainment like we got last night for so little money? None.

$16 will go a long way at 6th Ave. and Club coyote...

Congratulations Sycamores! From my perspective this team raised the bar last night even though we came up short. Great effort by all. Granted, we didn't knock down some bunnies and make some game changing freebies, but this team flat out showed, from tip to buzzer, they wanted this game. Watch and study the game film and work on the weaknesses and I think this team, if they play out the remaining regular season games with the same PASSION they did last night, ends up playing on Sunday in the Lou against the Shockers. If my memory serves me, the last time we one out in the Lou and got our ticket punched we went up against MO State with a 0 for 2 regular season record against them As someone said in another thread, it's hard to beat a good team 3 times in the same season. Now, I also want to send out a "TIP of the HAT" to SycamoreLynch. Man, you not only raised the bar you "HIGH JUMPED" the pole vault last night! This alum says THANKS to you! GO SYCAMORES!

I tried to say something last night but frankly, I was too wound up to put something together on here that wouldn't sound too gushy. I have been more than vocal on the atmosphere (or lack therof) in Hulman Center but the game last night should be the example of what we would all love to have each and every game. OK, I know that is not likely to happen but let's be honest, if that game had a different ending, it likely would have been the signature WIN in the schools history. I am sure some might not agree but I have seen a lot of game in 47 years and the electricity in that building was off the charts.

As I wrote on Facebook this morning, it would NOT have been anywhere near that exciting if the FOREST didn't take the bull by the horns and feed their high energy to the rest of the crowd. Tommy says 2200 were there and even that seemed conservative. They were nothing short of SUPERB last night and I can only hope that they had a ball doing it and plan to back for the remaining home games.

We have discussed how the timing of fight songs, Sparkette dancing, games on the floor during time-outs etc. often seem disjointed but NONE of that happened last night. My guess it is similar to when a player on the floor gets hot and his timing and his shots all start going in at one time and he can't miss. You could barely hear yourself think but it all just worked perfectly from start to end. The pep band was the best I have heard since DK left, the PA sounded more like Madison Square Garden than HC. I am not sure if the sound was just better on the east side of the arena instead of the west where I usually am, but damn, even the MUSIC sounded good. Upgrade or repaired, I am not sure --but I could hear everything loud and clear and you know how loud that crowd was. The Hulman Center crew deserves credit because they were ready for the big crowd and tweaked everything just right.

The team fought hard and showed some serious defense in spurts but basically were out-manned by a very good WSU team. We will replay those missed foul shots over and over again and agonized over those balls that came oh so close to going in, but didn't. Frustrating yes, but it will be an epic fun night that will be etched in my brain forever and likely anyone else that was there.

Try to find out what you did right, ISU. Figure out why it worked last night but not EVERY night like it should. Obviously it started with those 2200 students in the Forest. 9200 went home with some great memories that far exceeded the agony of losing a tough but close game. Since I firmly believe that we are not going to run the table with W's, I think we will be heading to the NIT unless we can win in St. Louis. That is something we can certainly do if they set their mind to it. You always hear how tough it is to beat a team three times in one season and the Shockers will have to do that to get by us.

I will never forget last night. Great hype, great student turnout, an excited fan base of all ages, a lower bowl that was nearly FULL, a great performance from the cheer squad and the Sparketts, the band returning to previous form, and top it off with a great Alumni event at the Bally to get it all started. Now that is something to bottle up. Great job across the board. Damn that was fun~

I honestly believe that that students turn the crowd on when they are loud like they were last night then many times the crowd will be louder . The effort they gave last night was great but we need that effort every night to make this a tough place to play . If anyone was in the crowd that did not have a good time they sure didnt show it last night .

The only thing I was disappointed in was the pre-game Pizza debacle at the Bally......anybody else encounter this??.....evidently the guys in the back weren't getting the orders from the bar......took us 1 1/2 Hours to get two Pizzas........come on, guys......I'll give you a pass this time.....but try to be a little more prepared on a big night like last night......

As much as I hate to say it, we had a similar situation, BP. We had ordered a pizza and waited over an hour to get it (unfortunately receiving it only 25 minutes before the game). We had to eat it so fast that we were forced to leave half a pitcher of beer. Not sure why they only had 1-2 bartenders at the main bar too (mostly 1) since I figured they knew the crowd would be large for a planned event. I know several people that waited 20 minutes to get a beer too. My guess is that someone didn't show up for work or something like that. You know I will give them a pass too.

My ONLY complaint was that it took 45 minutes to get out of the parking garage! But, with that said if we can pack 9,000 plus in for EVERY game I'll gladly live with it from now on!

Agree with everything said in this thread....the HC was rockin' and electric....

And I want to say, there's only been a few times when it was ever louder in there....one of those nights was when Bird and company, kicked the crap out Purdon't!!! The roar didn't stop from tip off, to the final horn.

It's been loud for lots of other games too...but there was something special about last night..even with the loss, it felt like we still won something.

Charlies is on my Terre Haute bucket list and I plan to hit there before the end of the season. When the "original" Charlie owned it, it was one of my favorite joints to frequent and I have not been there under the new regime but I am hearing all good things about it. Charlie was an awesome guy and I miss him and Lois. I'd like to stop by and "wish him well" up there in the Tavern in the Sky. Thanks for the suggestion, SSOM.

I took my dad to the first game that we have attended together in 10 years. He had a great time and is already talking about going back Sunday. It was unbelievable how many times we talked about the atmosphere and what the program would become if it was always that way. Good times.

Excellent first post. I can't say it enough thought... it's on the students. They MADE that atmosphere. If they lead the crowd like they did at every game, it will catch on and people will want to show up and witness it.
