Hey Dgreenwell, how does one see a copy of your column about student attendance? Can you help us out with a link, or copy your column in here?

As I stepped out of the car my mother said,“Just don’t do anything stupid,” For the past four years I have remembered that famous mantra my mother told me on my first day at college. You know what, I am starting to think that was some bad advice.
I suppose “stupid” may not be the best of phrases but “exciting” may be. As a student body, I am going to go ahead and say it, we are extremely lazy. We have a great student activities group that regularly puts on great events for the student body that do not get the attendance deserved.
Our athletics department have given away some of the best seats in the house just for us as students and they are regularly completely empty except for the super fans, who are just as rabid as any fan in the Missouri Valley Conference or Big Ten for that matter. But when no one shows up— or worse, people show up and sit down for the entire game— this frustrates me.
I just imagine more than half of this student body headed back to their dorm rooms as said “Superfans” are headed to the game and they say to said student body, “ISU is playing (Insert MVC opponent here) tonight. Let’s go pack the house that bird built!” (Yes I just coined that phrase!) The student body stands there for a second and goes, “Man I really don’t want to miss Two and A Half Men, rain check?”
It’s not just games though, I remember just a year ago when Once In a Blue Moon offered free massages. No tips needed. Free massages, people. And there wasn’t nearly enough people there to do justice for the service that these great people are trying to do for us.
As usual we say things like “I don’t like ISU athletics.” Sorry. Go to your school of choice. The fact that I can go to the library, an ISU funded building, and see an employee working behind the desk wearing a Purdue shirt sickens me. That’s a disgrace to this school and the people who work so hard to make it great. I challenge President Bradley or another official to make this a violation of rules.
The best way to improve things is to have more school spirit in general by getting more active in organizations and the Fandom of Indiana State University. I challenge ISU students to do more “stupid” things. I am serious. Paint your face, drink before the game (for those over the age of 21), go play putt-putt at the upcoming “Once in a Blue Moon” event. Just do something other than “Well, I sit in my apartment or dorm room, go out to the Bally or whatever favorite bar you have.” You have to do something, guys, because we as students are being outperformed by every other school in our conference and state to be honest.
Get a little crazy because crazy is exactly what this university needs right now. Some craziness adds the buzz that this university direly needs right now.

That is great greenwell, but this would take away from their "there is nothing to do in Terre Haute" routine.

Thanx for the backup guys....I usually get the roled eyes look from those who work with me at the statesman....like "And here goes Dan again..."

tell themto get off their asses and get to the game....lol...

Tell them to try showing up at Memorial Stadium, Bob Warn Field, the softball stadium, the track and field facility.....tell them that driving to Memorial Stadium is a heck of a lot closer than going on a "Road Trip!!!"...to Bloomington, West Lafayette, Muncie or Indianapolis....and if they can't simply walk across the street from campus and get to Hulman Center....then they are lazier than some fo us think that they are....lol.....

How hard is it being the editor in chief? Like where do you come up with these stories? I'm not saying their bad, I'm just askin like theres not really much to cover, so how do you find ideas? ha

Dgreen spoken like a true Hauten, I am glad to have met you in person and glad you take so much pride in the university and city - trust me it doesn't go unnoticed. Having met you only once in person I can tell you are a very passionate individual. I appreciate your passion and dedication, I may not always agree with you but I get where you are coming from.

We need more students like you!
