The Blue Level
I was back at Homecoming two years ago, and we were in the midst of 33 game losing streak.

Now, heading back 2 years later, I might be going to watch a team that is ranked in the Top 25.

It really is an impressive achievement.

PROUD TO BE A TREE!!!

I can still remember being at the WIU game where we ended the losing streak. What a long way we have come in such a short period of time.

Ryan Roberts running that miracle T.D back was unreal and in my opinion THE DEFINING MOMENT that preceded the resurrection of ISU football. I remember rushing the field and picking up some little kid who was lost in the chaos...threw him on my shoulders and watched him chant ISU! ISU! ISU! with the rest of us. You would have thought that kid was cheering for the Colts after winning a superbowl. What a day!

heck, I haven't been to an ISU homecoming since 1988 but I will be driving in this year. Having Pre-nats the same weekend helps!

Looking forward to a great weekend!

What!!! Pre-Nationals are the same weekend. I bet every hotel room in TH is booked. I wonder how much money I can make renting out my moms extra bedrooms:evileye:

pre-nats is the sunday after the homecoming game. terre haute will be packed. i truly believe this homecoming will be something special. i know we have two tough games until then but if we go 0-2 10,000-11,000, 1-1 11,000-sellout, 2-0 for sure a sellout. then people should stay around one more day and watch the largest cross country meet in the nation. that is a great weekend for ISU/Terre Haute.

I remember a few years back being embarrased to take my college buddies that drove in for the walk to the stadium because we were guranteed to get it taken to us. So glad those days are no more!

I hope all the hotel rooms are not booked with Pre-national runners and fans preventing people that decide they want to come to Terre Haute for homecoming from getting a room.

Yes, they are. I had problems getting a room several months back. I ended up having to split hotels.

Too bad they can't come up with something to put on the cash that will be spent....

that weekend in Terre Haute to prove to businesses just how much Indiana State's athletic department means to bringing people into town.

it depends; how many folks at last weeks YSU game were from OUTSIDE T-H, the Valley?

During the 2010-2011 MBB season, we averaged 5,602 per game. How many of those 5,602 were from out-of-town? How many of the local eat at home before the game vs. hitting one of the restaurants in town or make the concession stand their restaurant?

Something like Pre-Nationals; the Conference Championships, etc --- those one time events are easy to capture; whether they are or not, up to the individual businesses.

well that all depends on the demographics/metrics you are talking about. For instance, for football restaurants might not see a big improvement in business, but I would have to think that the Kroger and Baeslers see a big sell on hotdogs, hamburger, buns, beer, etc. Because the tailgating is growingo on gamedays. Most people coming in from out of town won't necessarily bring the food with them...but I am guessing on that. but then basketball is different, I would think that bars and restaurants are or will see huge growth in sales especially places like the Terminal, Copper Bar, etc. and the hotels too, but during basketball.

Also, night games effect sales for the local businesses. If football games are at night you will probably see more hotel and restaurant spending in TH. But a football game that starts at 2 PM, most that attend will end up going back home and not ever really need to spend that much money other than maybe gas and a Dollar Menu hamburger on the way out of town potentially they might sit down and eat, but that adds another 2 hours onto the time someone from Indy might get home. So if they leave "quickly" after the game they might get home at 6 PM...but is someone from Indy stops and sits to eat they aren't getting home until 9-10 PM. Its a big difference.

You are right one time events like Homecoming, Pre-Nats, etc. are different. But the typical weekly games are the real question.

We've stayed in hotels and eaten dinner out at local restaurants for almost every home game over the last 4 years. We see a lot of "out of towners" from the football games both at dinner and in the hotel. I think with continued winning and more consistently big crowds, it will certainly have an impact on the local hotels and restaurants. There has been a noticeable difference from 08-09 to last year and this year.

My wife and I are at Western Ribeye (Logans) on Wabash before heading back....

to Indy last Saturday and that place was packed with a lot of people who had been to the game earlier that day.

Winning cures a lot of ills.

Most of my friends who tailgate as a profession (none in T-H now...) don't buy their stuff on the way to the stadium; they buy it where they live; drag it to the game, there have been some pit stops for another pkg of buns but in general; they bring all of their stuff with them

you look at the BIG FBS schools (stadium size 85K+) those home games really show up in the local business; they should, you're dealing with an influx of tens of thousands of people. Until we are selling out MS; the influx will not be as noticible

Homecoming will show in increase, Pre-Nationals, maybe Graduation...

Again, out-of-towners money is NEW money; if you live and work in T-H, that dollar is just turning over in the T-H economy.

Kinda why the bowl cities LOVE their bowl games; a LOT of NEW money
