In social studies, we called this "values clarification." During the 80's it was part of the 3 R's for the social sciences: reading, 'riting & REASONING. It's been around for no less than (3) decades as a teaching tool in VALUES EDUCATION, which is just one of the behavioral objectives frequently used by astute social studies teachers in lesson planning.

During the last few years, traditional American values have been attacked by the "diversity" lobby, usually dominated by non-Christian based thinking. This only tends to cloud "values consistency" in human decision making, usually attacking and demonizing "status quo" life principles that have been long successful in shaping American lifestyles.
