What did they base those cuts on? Sounds like the local state legislators better get to work and ask some questions.

We need to start employing more state legislators - it worked for Ivy Tech - AGAIN!!!

It's all about FTEs kids....ISU gets a lot more money (per capita) than all other state schools based upon full time enrollment. Pres. Bradley mentioned that shortly after taking over that office. That's why he is so adamant about recruitment and retention.

I am still perplexed by Ivy Tech...they get all this money for all these programs and they "enroll" all these students and then they have such a horrible graduation rate...last i checked it was less than 20%...why keep investing in something that doesn't produce results. ISU doesn't have the best graduation rate but it is almost double ivy tech

And from what I've heard they do all but take the tests for you it's so easy.

I'm not trying to slam anyone who goes there, or went there, by the way. I know we get the same BS from the IUs of the world. I just don't understand how that many kids can fail to graduate from Ivy Tech.

How can you be perplexed by a state educational 'institution' that went and hired a bunch of state legislators as employees.

Typical inner thought of state legislator...Hmmm -- let's see, should I vote for more money for my part-time gig at Ivy Tech? Sure, why not -- who'll stop me?!

I didn't catch it in this budget bill but I've heard Mitch's long-term plan is to cut enough $$ out of the K-12 budgets to end the 'alternative-HS' programs; then those folks can spend THEIR $$ at Ivy Tech for a GED rather than the STATE'S money at the K-12 program...

Sounds simple but I think it'll blow up in Mitch's face

you are right about hiring legislator...Ivy Tech has been very good at doing that. I don't know if that is Mitch's plan...could be? But that doesn't change the fact that it is perplexing. Why keep investing in something that doesn't work? Even if it is a part-time gig for some legislators...oh I just answered my own question.

There should be a grass roots campaign to lobby....

the Governor and the state legislature about the situation in funding Indiana State University.

The situation that the University is now in was brought on by poor leadership from Dr. John Moore and Dr. Lloyd Benjamin. ISU is now reaping what Moore and Benjamin brought on.

You should head up the campaign Tom - I agree, they need to know that enrollment is up at Indiana State and cutting the budget of a "cheap" University in the midst of a Economic downturn will handcuff the University. We are in a position to be able to capitalize on offering a more affordable option for high school graduates, these budget cuts off set any growth we might experience!

I know nothing (very little) about higher ed. so if that blurb that I just threw out made no sense then excuse my ignorance - but it made sense to me... lol

ISU used to have an in with the state government people.....

when Dr. Landini was in charge...but it's all gone now........

Indiana State University shouldn't be getting the short end of the stick every time these funding issues come up. ISU needs to really lobby these people.

I've repeatedly mentioned IN #38 Rep. TIM SKINNER's rising prominence within the IN political circles. He's an Otter Creek/Garfield/ISU grad & current West Vigo SS teacher...and a long-term Sycamore sports fan! ISU needs to closely reexamine its organizational Hoosier political network and determine where tweaks are necessary.
