Dr. Bradley presented to University's 5 year strategic plan yesterday and also divulged some details about the Master Plan which is yet to be released. Good read here:

This excerpt was of special interest to me: “The plan we’ve developed calls for us moving west, at least in terms of our athletic facilities,” Bradley said.

The master plan specifically calls for the relocation of the track and field complex to an area west of Third Street and closer to the riverfront. Currently, the track is east of Third Street.

ISU also intends to be a partner in Riverscape, he said. “We think Riverscape is very important for Terre Haute and its image and the lives of its people, therefore it’s very important to ISU,” he said. “We want to participate in that.”

I knew these guys had been reading my posts on sycamorehoops.com and you people thought I was nuts! ahah

With the track moving to the west, ISU also would like to develop a new main entrance or “gateway” to campus off Third Street that “lets the world know we’re here,” the president said. There also would be a connection to Riverscape.

If they could get the RR track moved, the 3rd St overpass would provide an excellent connector from the main campus to the athletic campus. Just picture, the new baseball stadium, new football stadium, new fieldhouse, new track facilities, all interspersed with some commercial development! This could be really a world-class setup for ISU.

Dr. Bradley is awesome! This is the type of thing that Terre Haute has needed to happen for decades. When I lived in Terre Haute, I heard the complaints about the colleges and that Terre Haute wasn't a college town. WELL IT IS! There are 4 colleges in Terre Haute...the way to improve and grow the economy of Terre Haute is to embrace the college town concept and create and support businesses that cater to college students, faculty, etc. The plans sound great and I am looking forward to some other things that are part of the facility plan that will come out later.

One last thing, moving the railroad tracks is vitally important. Both the set north of campus and the line that runs down the middle of 1st Street. Just drive through West Lafayette and you will see how great the removal of railroad tracks can make an area.

Ha-Rumph!!

It'll be interesting to watch the battle to move the RR tracks; definitely needed BUT I think a hard battle.

Was anyone else struck by this statement from Dr. Bradley?
“If we are going to be successful as a university, it’s critical that Terre Haute be successful,” Bradley said. “We need to work together.”

Damn; after 140+ years, State understands that they and T-H need to work together?!
Good but damn...

Thoughts on a seperate football stadium and track facilities?

I recommend a 'mini-Lucas Oil Stadium,' complete w/ a retractable roof. In the fall, it can be open for football as well as the spring track season; in the winter close it for the indoor season.

Who is gonna pay for that? not likely...but a great idea. Maybe we can get Clabber Girl or Sony to give a pile of money. Lets not forget that the master plan involves a great deal of things, first and foremost being student housing which affects every non commuting student, then athletics down the road.

The UNI Dome is the same way - after football season they take the field up and it's a great indoor track facility underneath. The best indoor track in the Mo Val.

I actually like the idea of a multi use facility - I think if the plan is to keep the football program around then they have to be included in a multi use outdoor stadium. That would look great coming across the river on the bridge - if any of you have seen that Wabash River beautification plan it's rather neat. I know that Pat Martin and Coach McNichols have both played a role in developing that plan - if we could tie in a new track/football/womens soccer facility into that stadium it could be really something fantastic.

I would say something like this will happen by by 2020 at the very latest - I really believe that this is on the front burners now. He wouldn't have mentioned it to the news paper if not. I know the master plan is a map out for the next 20 years (I hope Bradley is here that long).

The track program (indoor and outdoor) has been neglected long enough and I am glad that someone has taken the lead in at least acknowledgment of that. They need a new indoor and or outdoor track both in the the next 10 years at the most. Granted both might not happen - but one or the other is crucial.

It could be sooner...

than 2020; is it possible the 'facilities' portion of the Capital Campaign is geared to athletic facilities?

Dr. Bradley mentioned that the campaign has raised over half of the $85M goal...

The four area(s) are:

Student Support (Scholarships)
Teaching and Faculty Development (Endowed Chairs / Professorships / Research)
Program Support (Endowed Chairs / Professorships / Research)
Facilities (new - baseball field; rehab, Fed Bldg - CoB, Sadison Hall, Normal Hall, HYPR addition)

It would be a great asset for Indiana State to get a multi-use indoor stadium. I would like to have a mini Lucas-Oil Stadium in Terre Haute. It would really add to the atmosphere at the football games, once people start going to the games, and once they start winning games.

Morgan, I wonder if we could make a first-class football and track indoor facility? Think they can design a building that is awesome for both sports, and for spectators? Oh yeah, without costing $100,000,000? I would think the hardest part would be having enough space for track and field without making the spectators sit 2 1/2 miles away from the football field. Anyone looked at this???

You take credit for this? What a joke!

317 I was really not that serious - I was just posting the article and wanted to have some fun with it while posting the article... Please don't take my posts so personal. I am sure you are a good person - I just wanted to find a clever way to present the article, that's all. Don't read so deep into everything bra.

I just can't see any kind of indoor stadium occuring. Maybe I am wrong, but it is highly unlikely. I would have to think that any new stadium would include track and most likely soccer as well. Multi-use is a certainty in my book, but indoor is just too expensive. Don't forget that North Dakota is sponsored by the Beef people among other major sponsors...ISU doesn't have that kind of corp. support. It is going to be a major feat to get to the Goal of the campaign...and the use of that money or other money to build an indoor "mini" Lucas Oil would certainly upset many, many alums that would be giving money to the campaign...not to mention that much of the $ will be earmarked for specific purpose, and that specific purpose isn't going to be athletics, necessarily. I personally know several alums that will be earmarking their donations for student organizations, specific programs, etc.

I think it would be really cool to have an indoor stadium, but once again you are talking about politics here and politics dictate that this is unlikely!

I see the cost benefit...but also, if this is going to become part of this "Riverscape" project, I would imagine they will go with an outdoor stadium...so we can all take in the wonderful smell of Wabash River Water.
