sadly this meet has really lost it's luster, Notre Dame hasn't competed in years, and now Purdue isn't coming this year, and who knows if IU will run their "A" team?

Will probably be warm and windy, so times may not be real fast tomorrow.

USI is bringing their team and they're a very good team.

I know absolutely nothing about Cross Country, so I am going to ask a dumb question. What criteria does a CC team use to determine if a meet is good or bad? Is it the course, the competition, other? I always thought CC was race against your opponent but also the clock and your last best time? Everything I hear about ISU CC is they are a really good team and a great program, so why wouldn't a team want to compete against them?

The same criteria as a basketball or football team would use. A lot of it has to do with the prestige of the meet and the teams (level of competition) that attend that meet. The course/venue also plays a factor in determing a good meet vs. bad meet... It's like playing in Wrigley Field or Fenway Park sometimes it doesn't matter how bad the team is on the other side, if the venue is historic nothing else matters.

You got it - CC is a race against your opponent, the clock, your previous PR (Personal Record) and also your teammates if you are a borderline runner just trying to make the roster every week.

NCAA Cross Country is dumb. It is all about Regional and National Rankings. A team has the opportunity to gain at large points during the year by having good results in big time meets. The Indiana Intercollegiate is not one of those meets. Notre Dame has never participated - at least in the last 10 plus years. IU has nothing to gain by competing in it - if they beat ISU and others they were supposed to win as they have superior talent and if they lose they laid an egg and suck. Again it is not much different than college basketball or football. The one thing really interesting about college cross country different from other sports is some of the elite programs will not even race their top kids until the end of the season (Conference, Regional, Nationals). They do this to save their legs - basically no value is really placed on these meets that take place during the year. They will not fall in the rankings if they run a B team (with some A guys sprinkled in) and that B team fails to produce. Because the voting public knows that they didn't run the top runners and that if they had they would have scored much better so they don't punish them. So most coaches across the country decide to save the legs of their kids and hold them out of meets.

By mid major, MVC conference standards and Indiana State Athletic standards ISU Cross Country is an elite program. But as far as the rest of competing with the Cross Country/distance running elite schools Indiana State falls short. We are in one of the most difficult regions in the country which makes it really hard for them to make the NCAA National meet or get an at-large bad. It's hard to justify when you finish 8th in your Regional meet. They end up taking five or six teams from this region. Indiana State Cross Country as good as they have been over the years they have NEVER made an NCAA National meet.

I'll bet they (meaning NCAA and the Pr) wouldn't consider a rule requiring a minimum amount of competition a runner must have to participate in regional, conference or other really important meets because the IUs and Oregons of the world want it their way.

Supposedly there is live video for the meet today so we'll see how well it works.

And now I see even Butler isn't running a men's team, so just 3 of 9 D-I Schools in Indiana competing

Taylor Austin leads the women with a 6th place finish in about 18:12

IU took the top 5 spots and won easily.

Looks like ISU was probably 2nd place as most of the girls came in together around the 19 minute mark.

Men next

tune in, actually it's quite impressive video coverage for a CC meet folks!

Mascari wins again, his 4th straight win and the only collegiate athlete to win 4 straight intercollegiate meets. ISU's top 3 men were strong, but we're very weak at 4-5-6-7 right now.

Probably going to be 3rd behind IU and IUPUI in the team scores.

team scores were close, and surprisingly IUPUI won with 40 points, ISU was 2nd with 43, and #10 ranked IU finishes 3rd with 45 points. Dang, close racing there folks.

this really is a good meet, it's sad that Purdue, Butler, IPFW, Evansville, Valpo, and Notre Dame choose to bypass this meet. Ball State doesn't have men's track or men's CC.

I'll give Notre Dame a pass as they did host the national catholic championship meet today in South Bend

obviously it's very early and the weather will eventually cool down, leading to better performances, but at this point I'd say the men will continue to be the favorites to win another MVC title and the women will be a top 4 team, finally getting out of the bottom 5 teams.

Mascari makes history, Sycamore men and women both finish as runners-up at 2015 India

Sycamore All-American John Mascari permanently etched himself into the Indiana cross country history books on Friday afternoon after becoming the first athlete to ever win four Indiana Intercollegiate titles.

DAMMIT ! One of the rare occasions where we beat IU and IUPUI steals the brass ring. Maybe sometime ISU will be able to recruit five elite runners?

If we haven't done it to this point it aint going to happen. lol

Too many good kids in the state of Indiana walk-on at IU and never amount to anything. Hell we have had several from right here in Terre Haute do it and never do anything... Dumb
