The Recruit Level
I had the opportunity last week to attend the Kansas & Missouri All Star game that is played annually in Kansas City. These are the best players in the metro area of Kansas City from both sides of the state line.

This game was also televised here in Kansas City, and the show opened up on what players to keep an eye on...what was interesting is that the broadcasters pointed out that from both teams defensively were Ian Allen - Kansas All-Stars...LB 6'3" 220 and Conrrad Nicholls - Missouri All-Stars...DE 6'5" 240 pounds...they stated that these two will be going to Indiana State and becoming Sycamores.

Nicholls is a force to be reckoned with...he is big and strong and quick!!! He will easily put another 20-30 pounds on that frame of his. Great pursuit of the passing game and puts a lot of pressure on the QB...I would put him on the weak side.

Allen is very fast. He has this innate sense for the ball...he is everywhere. Very athletic...great in pass coverage...The program said he weighed 220, but he looks 225-230! When he hits someone you see it...but you can also hear it!

I said to myself Holy Cow! Indiana State is going to be awesome. These two football players were very high profile here in Kansas City and should have gone to much larger schools like KU, Missouri, KState, Arkansas...I know that Ian Allen was heavily recruited by all those schools.

At any rate, you all should consider yourself very lucky to get these two. I would be very surprised if they don't contribute right a way!!!

The game started and both of these two showed everyone why they were there. Nicholls, had at least 2 sacks and handful of tackles. Allen was everywhere...I know I counted him having at least 14 tackles...maybe more!!! Allen also received a very prestigous award at halftime given over the past 19 years annually at this event for the area's most outstanding linebacker...the Ronald Warren Award. He is with very elite company of linebackers that have gone on to play at D1 schools and 2 that went on to play in the NFL.

Just a comment and a couple of pictures from the game...Allen #22 in white jersey and Nicholls #80 in dark jersey.

Thanks for the post. We look forward to these 2 and the other Freshmen this coming season. A few are already in Terre Haute working out with the team. The coaching staff has done an impressive job of getting out and finding great players to rebuild the program.

Thank you for that note!
Makes me even more excited for the season to start!!!

Everything I've read about both has been impressive. Thanks for the review and thoughts. Our defense needs to take a big step forward this year.

Nice to hear good things about new recruits. Thanks for the post. Believe me when I say everyone is looking forward to the opener at Penn State on Sept. 3. Mcirishman, you might be able to catch the game on the Big Ten Network starting at noon eastern. We would love to have your support.

McIrish, thanks for posting that. Obviously many on here are pleased to hear about those two as well as others that have possibly rejected more visible 1-A schools and have opted for what they hope will be something "really special" at Indiana State. The general consensus about this fall's 2011 Sycamores is obviously raising a few eyebrows about what "may be" next season and my gut feeling is that we will be pretty damned good. Not good enough to beat the Nittany Lions mind you, but good enough to win most of their games. I wish all this would convert to 10,000 at their first home game and double the attendance from last year but we all know our fans need more than raised eyebrows, they need proof. By the end of the season, I think most will be convinced. I sure hope so. This will be a special season.

I can say that I have never been more excited about Sycamore football and let's hope those expectations become reality. Can't wait for the first tailgating Tom get together.
