Hi,
I need some information on Indiana State in general.

I have connection to a football player who has popped up on Indiana State's radar in the last week. May or may not be able to do a visit. Been looking on the Internet for information on the school, sports, etc. Of course, my recognition of the school is for the Bird Man. So, tell me about the school (Academics, student life) and Terre Haute. Thanks....

BTW....here is his 2010 Highlight video.

Wow, that's a big boy!

Just a quick question first. Do you know what kind of academic program Zachary is looking for?

That kid's a monster first of all...ISU is a pretty good school when it comes to student life but what are your questions that you need to have answered?

Those are strong points at Indiana State University, Especially Athletic Training...Our Athletic Training program is well respected throughout the nation...

In general, student life. How large is the on-campus population? Is it an older campus that has been updated recently facilities-wise? Where do the Athletes stay? Some Traditions you are proud of?

I see one of Indiana State's recruits is going to be at Southern University this weekend (reading your messageboard). Zac will be there. Told him to talk to him if he can for some information.

Well, on-campus population is around what 6 thousand? That's a guesstimation...Recently we have added alot of new facilities including a new rec center and new housing options...Athletes stay all over campus but as a freshmen he could stay in any of our options from the Quads to the newer burford...the first one that comes to mind is the Walk when on homecoming all the students over the age of 21 stopping at every bar on the way to get a drink...this cause one of the most raucus crowds all year lol...

Just going to preface response that I was on campus from 1996-2001. I still go back very frequently as I stay involved as an alum through the sports programs and my fraternity, Kappa Alpha Order.

ACADEMICS
-----------
Indiana State offers 100+ majors, notably education, business, criminology, finance, insurance and risk management, nursing, athletic training, and construction technology; the university's graduate education, financial services, nursing and clinical psychology programs are nationally recognized.

I graduated in 2001 with my Bachelors in Management Information Systems (School of Business). One of the things I loved, and probably the biggest reason I chose Indiana State, was the personal relationships you can have with professors due to the smaller class sizes. Rarely did any of my major classes have over 20-30 students aside from the freshman 101 courses. Lots of personal attention that really allowed me to have a good academic experience.

I believe all incoming students get laptops if they had a HS GPA of 3.0 or higher. That wasn't around when I was a student. The Princeton Review has given State the nod as "Best in the Midwest" for the last six or seven years. I'd recommend you check out the newest Master Plan that I linked below. Indiana State has really transformed the campus over the last 10 years and has some very exciting things on the horizon. Our new President is nothing short of amazing and has really re-energized the campus.

STUDENT LIFE
--------------
I'd say ISU probably has 5,500-6,000 students that live on campus. If I had to guess, I'd say it's relatively diverse, probably 75-80% white, 15-20% black and 5% other ethnic origins. Altogether, enrollment is around 11,500 students with 9,000+ being undergraduates.

Outside of football, there are a ton of student organizations students could get involved in. When I was a student, I was a member of Kappa Alpha Order, served on the Student Governement Association and was involved in quite a few other organizations. If you want to get active, you can. They had every gambit imaginable from a sky diving club to rugby to student ministry... there is something for everyone.

TRADITIONS
------------
Keep in mind, my Sycamore traditions are shaped by the fact I was Greek. That said, Homecoming and Spring Week were always big although Spring Week seems to be fading a bit. During Homecoming, you have the annual Sycamore Tricycle Derby, Homecomign Parade, the Homecoming football game, all sorts of activities like comedians and concerts and the Walk, which is a pub crawl. During Spring Week, you had more Greek events and a Tandem race.

I'm sure I'll think of more stuff and tons of folks on here could recount what ISU meant to them, so feel free to ask more specific questions if you can think of them.

Business school is a good school was a top 10 in recent yrs not sure of it's current ranking. Business School is moving into a 13+ million $ refurbished Federal Building that formally became part of the campus this last semester.
Athletic Training is strong at ISU as State was the 1st college or university to develop such a program. ISU athletic training grads are all over the USA & beyond...colleges, universities, NFL, NBA, CFL, etc.
ISU has good acedemics but not so big that you get lost or are just a number.
ISU acedemics, the campus & athletics are all going through a Renaissance.
If this is what he's looking for...Welcome to Indiana State!!

Forgot to mention the new Rec center. It's absolutely pheonominal. I only wish I had that at my disposal. We lifted at Le Club/The Pit and played hoops in the arena. The new facility is just amazing.

The new 11,000 Student Recreation Center opened in July 2010, and it includes a three-court gymnasium, a recreational aquatics facility, a fitness center, a healthy snacks bar, an elevated running track, multi-purpose activity rooms, and multi-activity courts, as well as locker rooms and offices.

football facilities have been updated and modernized....

in the past couple of years....new locker rooms...new athletic training rooms....new equipment room...new meeting rooms......new turf....new scoreboard with a large video message board....and they are installing a new grass practice field.....

also, the football offices have been moved to a bigger location right across the street from the arena....they have a whole floor to themselves...
