I know some of us are disappointed that we’re not getting the first rendition of the Hulman Center remodel. But I’m still excited for what we’re getting, and it’s gonna be a huge upgrade to what we have, and an asset to the community. I like how they’re opening sections to the outside. The facade is also going to be much better looking the the rendering was. Sounds like we’re getting the end zone seating back. I also hear we’re getting the sports lighting package. I do hope we get an improved sound system. I’m enjoying watching the progress.

The lighting is state of the art in LED by Ephesus Lighting. The products installed are the Lumadapt 8 with full color changing and wireless control, thought not sure if we got that package. All major sports fields and arenas are getting these products. If you saw the Alabama football video where they flood the stadium with crimson, these are the same fixtures. Hopefully they have them professionally aimed.

It most certainly looks like Lumadapt 8 lighting package. Can someone confirm this was in the specs?

Ephesus was in the published bid package on the ISU document library. The Lumadapt 8 is fairly new and I don't recall specifically seeing the fixture model. If it specified anything it likely would have been the All Field model.

I definitely agree with you, on all parts. Doing my best to hold judgement until the final product is unveiled and enjoying seeing the progress made via these videos.

Let me also just go on the record in saying that I'm less upset about what it's looking like and still jaded by the process at which we arrived at the final decision... I am fine with what they are doing - I would have been more fine with it had they not released multiple misleading concepts - then when the final renderings came out it wasn't anything close to the others that had been previously released. That is a far different from being upset about what they are currently doing. I am glad we're getting a renovation - I will never forget how ignorant the entire process was... I refuse to ignore the fact that we sat on state funding for as long as we did, we failed to seek major corporate or donor funding and they managed to lose out on the opportunity for the convention center to be part of this project - that is what I'm "upset" about... Not the work that is currently being done - the building badly needed a total makeover.

Can absolutely get on board with that train of thought. I think the final version will still be very nice, just not as glamorous as the first version. Overall I am pleased with what I see so far...The two major gripes I have at the moment is there is no locker renovation and not selling the naming rights. Those two items could very well be in the works, but I will be disappointed if they don't accomplish those two things. As far as i'm concerned the Hulman family has done nothing in my lifetime worthy of keeping it named after them for free..And the locker room is one of the most important features in the arena for recruiting..It would be the perfect target to be partially or fully funded though the public. It was the cheapest of the alternates and out of all the things associated with the remodel it would we easiest to get the community behind funding IMO. As I said, it could be in the works..but I have not heard anything about it yet.

The Hulmans were a very shrewd lot. I wouldn't be surprised if, in the agreement they reached with ISU, they had it stipulated that no one could change the Hulman portion of the name of the building - EVER. Perhaps that's why the naming rights have never been sold - they were locked up by Tony Hulman 50 years ago...just thinking out loud...

Wouldn't shock me...

I know this may be getting ahead of myself considering it is over a year away, but I wonder if the school has given any thought to who the opponent might be on the night when they open the HC up after all of the renovations are completed. I know that a Big Ten school won't take us on in Terre Haute, but would hope they would schedule a team like Ball State or St Louis and not a Div II school.

Unless they get it done soon enough and have an exhibition game there. Either way, I hope our first home opponent next year is a decent one.

You think Butler may be realistic? Duke would be interesting? Wichita Sate or Creighton? Maybe they could host a weekend of Indiana D1 College games (ISU, BSU, Valpo, IUPUI, IPFW, IU, PU, UE, UND, Butler).
