Wasn't that the rumor awhile back that they were looking at possibly the Horizon or Ohio Valley? Make sense since they would then be on level group in terms of athletics funding with those schools (as would we) and IIRC, hasn't their enrollment continued to drop over the last several years? It is way too expensive to go there IMO.

Would this purely be a competitive/competition decision, or is there more to it? I'd assume the money is better in the MVC, but that's definitely an assumption and nothing I've researched. Seems to me the criteria for changing conference affiliation goes in this order: 1) Money 2) Money 3) More Money.

My guess it would be marginal in terms of media money. In terms of NCAA shares, once Wichita's magical run wears off, it's basically even since both conferences are 1 bid leagues. I honestly think you'll see fewer and few mid-majors getting invitations as the NCAA autonomy keeps changing the rules to slant it towards the power schools.

On top of that, if they can win more, maybe they believe they'll find more money, greater attendance and the like if they're a consistent upper half or conference winner in a lower level conference.

As it's the city of Evansville, not the university hosting the OVC tourney; is this the onset of a micro-tempest in a teapot? The aces spent 17 nights in the Ford Center; the Thunderbolts will spend 28 nights... the city has a $128M bill to pay; so that building needs to be busy, ~150+ nights a year; per the Ford Center's ( websitehttp://www.thefordcenter.com/events/viewall/ ) , they have 11 events in the Center in March, 8 in April... I'm sure they'll have more concerts, events added but with only 45 guaranteed events a year, the city needs to host anything to keep the facility occupied.

Would Moores Hill be a better fit in the OVC or Horizon than Valley? they'd save some on travel but their overall profile would decline... they've been members of both leagues in the past; though their stint in the then Horizon (nee' MCC) is far more recent.

IF they end up in the Horizon, does the Valley steal Valpo? and a Dakota School from the Summit?

I DO agree that fewer Mid-Majors are getting at-large bids; it's two-fold, both the greedy :censored: "power 5" conferences demanding more at-large BUT also because of conference re-alignment/expansion; many former 'mid-majors' are now in higher profile leagues...

I believe we'd still play them annually in MBB even if they would depart the Valley, it would just be another 1-gm annual series versus the home-home series of the MVC

2,300 a game for the Thunderbolts ain't gonna pay the bills...

Theories WHY attendance has dropped:

City must not be hurting financially...going forward w/ a new pool costing $8-12M, replacing the Lloyd Pool.
