Love that the big man made the most of his opportunity tonight and was KEY in the trees victory tonight!! That is what a SR is suppose to do. Step up big on the road and show the youngsters how to close out on the road! He might not be the player we thought he could be after his FR year but he does seem to make the most out of what he gets. Go look at his playing time this season. Almost every game he gets more than 10 minutes of pt he gives us positive numbers.

Way to go Isiah! Couldn't have happened to a better guy!!!

Talk about stepping up with FT's, rebounds, and good "D." Love it!!!

Excellent game Isiah! you helped ISU get a HUGE road win tonight! Keep playing like that the rest of the season now!

Wow Jason is that correct? All 5 of his boards were on the offensive end? That's like having 10 rebounds when you are either getting fouled or creating another shot opportunity.

I said this on another thread. With out Isiah with his rebounds and free throws we come up short. Happy to see him take advantage of his time. Maybe he has gotten what ever the message was. Hope he can work himself into the rotation. I really enjoy watching him play. Another good team win. We need a team that does not care who scores or makes the big play, just as long as someone comes up big when the team needs it.

We were just talking the other night at the UNI game about Isaiah's lack of playing time. Shortly after we were discussing it, he came in the game and knocked down a shot. Glad to see that tonight he got meaningful playing time and made the most of it.

What's great about this team is that we don't have anybody on our roster who simply can't play. We have had those players on our bench in the past almost every year.

The hard part is Coach Lansing's..."how do I find playing time for everybody when no matter who I put in the game seems to step up and deserve more pt?"

Great problem to have, Greg! Great job tonight, Trees. Keep it going!

Solid point...it's definitely not like the past where you cringed when a certain someone would check in...I definitely agree with this. Definitely seem to be more competent from top to bottom which makes this a better team. Now that they're beginning to gel some and play better together, you'd think it can only get better.

this was in today's MVC report in USA Today
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/mensbasketball/mvc/indst.htm

"BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: Indiana State senior center Isiah Martin has always provided energy, shot-blocking prowess and enthusiasm off the bench for the Sycamores. Now, the Chicago native is starting to provide points. Martin comes off the bench to substitute for starting center Myles Walker, and in past games, Martin was usually called upon to play defense, get rebounds and set screens. Since Jan. 22, Martin has also been a scoring option in the paint. In six of the seven games Martin has played since then, he's attempted at least three shots. In all but one of the games, he shot over 50 percent from the floor. Martin did it again against Southern Illinois on Feb. 16 as he was 3 of 6 from the field and scored seven points, his highest total since Jan. 9. The popular Martin has become a valuable threat in the paint for the Sycamores and his energy is contagious among his teammates."

"BY THE NUMBERS: 130 - Number of career blocked shots by senior Isiah Martin through Feb. 12, which ranks second in Indiana State history. The Sycamores' school record is 168 set by DeCarsta Webster from 1975-78."

I think Isiah had more in the SIU game. Would like to see him go out with a good run here!

Great to see a good kid do well after not getting many chances for what ever reason.Speaks well for his character and work ethic.Has great physical skills that are best suited for short spurts. The college game has gottten so physical that only the absolute top big men can play extended minutes without a break.ISU looks to be in good shape the rest of this season and for several years to come.

I have watched and talked to Isiah since he was in HS and I can say one great thing about him that he will hopefully keep going forward in in life after ISU. Even though the hand that was dealth to him at ISU was not what he was expecting, I can say one thing about him, HE HAS KEPT HIS HEAD UP AND HAS ALWAYS HAD A POSITIVE ATTITUDE. You are playing great ball now IM, keep it up, and keep that attitude dude.

Can't really add anything to the article... just goes to show what I've been trying to say for a LONG time... put him in, let him play through some mistakes - ENCOURAGE him when he does make the mistakes (he will - and he seems to respond better to encouragement - rather than yelling... he seems to shut down when he gets yelled at sometimes), but let him play without fear of "The Dog House".

Great to see..
