The upcoming quarterback battle between returning starter Mike Perish and up-and-comer Robert Tonyan Jr. is on the radar of followers of the Indiana State football program.
It should be intriguing, no doubt.

I just hope the loser of that battle doesn't turn around and quit the team like last year. We need depth.

Also, do we really have "gaping holes" at LB? Yes, we lost seniors, happens in college football, but we have several young LBs on the roster. Are they as good as advertised or not? Many came here with good press. The gaping holes have been and might still be at WR. Since Hilton left, we've really had no consistent receivers. Yes, we've had guys who have the speed to stretch the field, but apparently not enough skill to get open regularly and also catch the ball. Maybe that was just the run deep and we'll occasionally chuck it to you offense we had previously. I hope so.

How about the TE position? We've had Alex Jones and Mike Mardis the past 5 years--is there someone to replace them? Hilton was at times very good, but I don't know that I'd use the word consistent. Riley is consistent and runs good routes, and based on the spring practices, a couple of the new WRs look promising. We have to see what they can do in the "real" games.

Consistent probably wasn't the best word to use. We certainly didn't have anyone with his production last year and big plays.

That he was--other than Shakir, Hilton was the only other playmaker. Periodically Spencer, Mardis or others would come up with a play, but never on any consistent basis.
