might as well get a game thread going since EIU has released their pregame info. Nothing from ISU yet though. EIU is still ranked in the top 20 in both I-AA polls.

EIU release

Hopefully the 16 days off have helped ISU

EIU has a blogger for their team as well. Brian Nielsen

Semo

for those looking ahead to the SEMO game, SEMO is playing Tennessee Tech tonight, their blogger is live at the game, this guy shows very little respect for SEMO and makes it sound like they're not very good.

SEMO - Tenn. Tech blog link

just for those wanting to preview an ISU opponent (by the way, this game is on ESPNU believe it or not, in front of a pretty sparse crowd)

Score - Tennessee Tech wins 29-27, sounded like a close game, SEMO has some good players, so it should be a good game (hopefully) w/ them in Terre Haute later this month.

ok back on topic here:

Some things it'd be nice to see ISU accomplish Saturday at EIU:

1. Hold EIU to less than 600 yards of offense (they had over 600 last year).
2. Make EIU punt at least once (they didn't punt once in 2007).
3. Score (anything, a field goal, touchdown, safety, etc....)

anything else to add anyone?

You pretty much covered it, CC. Not exactly setting the bar real high, but when we're standing in the bunker to begin with...

We have to expect some form of improvement week to week. I think that would be a step in the right direction. As bad as the kicking game is, I wouldn't expect a field goal though. Hopefully, Eastern will come in over confident and we'll get off to a good start. With an early score maybe we could even keep it close, although I'm not counting on it.

Sounds like my wife, who is a Northern Illinois alum, and I are going to the game next week. It's a lot closer for us than Terre Haute. I'm excited to see them live, but also hope we don't get embarrassed too bad, although I'm guessing we will.

Don't know how they did on turnovers last time but keep them to a minimum would be a good start as well.

you're right, less turnovers, (or almost turnovers). Last game at EMU ISU had 3 fumbles and 3 interceptions, but they didn't lose any of the fumbles.

Also, fewer penalties, especially the penalties like false starts, off sides, etc...

I guess the silver lining in all this is... When their first win comes these young men will truly enjoy it and feel great about it. I know I'll be very happy for them when it happens.

a couple of pregame articles from the respective papers prior to today's game. I wonder if the hurricane impacts tonight's game?? Looks rainy in northern Ill. and northern IN today. Great to see everyone healthy for ISU too.

Progress is all I want to see. A WIN would be nice, but simple progress is very important at this point.

Last year, we got worse every game. Hopefully this year, we get a little bit better every game. The results will come when they come. Let's look for progress and be content with that.

I don't think Coach Miles will be content until they win, but that is a good quality for a coach to have.

Let's all remember, we are sending a lot of 18-19-20 year olds out to play against 21-22-23 year olds. We are gonna get beat up a little bit. Even the upperclassmen that are playing for us don't have much experience.

Let's stay positive and look for improvement. Remember, it's easier to get bad than it is to get good. STAY POSITIVE AND FOCUSED! We'll get there.

Good Luck Sycamores!

You know what would help with fan interest and attendance at games? If the Tribstar and Gosycamores would tell us in their pre-game stories WHAT TIME IT STARTS!!!!!!!!!!

I had to look at the Eastern Illinois story to find out it's 6 p.m.

Goals

ok, EIU had to punt, so that's one goal accomplished!

Now, let's score ISU!

EIU leads 10-0 in the 1st quarter

EIU time of possession in the 1st quarter: 1 minute, 39 seconds, yet they lead 10-0.

ISU with a solid drive to start the 2nd, 2 fumbles by Dowdell kills any shot ISU has at scoring. Ugh

by the way, Golden is blogging from the game

Blog link

halftime

24-0 EIU leads

turnovers just killing ISU, Dowdell out, Schmidtke in to end the 1st half. Too many missed opportunities for ISU on offense in that 1st half.

On a positive note, EIU has only 129 yards of total offense.

ISU dominates time of possession 21:06 to 8:54 for EIU

Surprised to hear Viverito at this game, of all games?

Let's hope ISU scores in the 2nd half.

38-0 EIU leads in the 3rd,

EIU scores easily on their 1st 2 drives of the 2nd half.

Doesn't look like ISU is gonna score this game.

goals

well, I was wrong, FG ISU, so the drought ends in the 8th quarter of the season.

38-3 EIU

that's 2 goals met, EIU had to punt once in the 1st half and ISU scored a FG.

might be able to keep them under 50

EIU brings in the JV team and ISU holds, forcing EIU to punt for the
2nd time this game.

Hopefully Schmidtke can engineer another drive here.

check that, Dowdell back in the game now
