The owner didn't see to be too upset; resigned is probably the better word.
Glad that he pointed out the problems with the Wal-Marts... AND how he's finding a way to counter them...

Yeah, I was kind of surprised by it to be honest. I like Farmer's markets, when I was in college I was there regularly.

Wasn't surprised. Last time I was in the Haute it was closed on a weekend mid-day. That area of town doesn't get the traffic it once did, partly because Indiana State is buying up everything over there.

I'm just glad we're not being met with a ton of resistance to our master plan. Hopefully the city and citizens realize that with Indiana State continuously improving that it will bring in more students which in essense means more jobs and money into the local economy.

agreed -- you get some yahoos who complain about the university getting 'control' of current streets but in general folks are either:

1. For it! :sycamores:
2. Resigned to it?
3. Apathetic/Agnostic?! :verysad:
4. Agin it; dadgummit?!?!?! :krazy:

while i hope that the owner finds another way to make a lively hood, but it does seem like he not that concerned about it so good for him. but it is so exciting to see the progress being made. once the factory's are demolished and stadiums start erecting, Indiana State athletics will be able to take the next step in athletics.:sycamores:

Sooo... I haven't read the whole article yet... BUT... if the Farmer's Market is in the way, wouldn't Pizza City and Imperial Lanes be in the way too??

Hopefully "The Farmer's Market" will be replaced by the "Terre Foods" cooperative soon..

Here is a link to the Google Map:

The ISU Master Plan...

(pg 21) has the new football stadium located (approximately) one block west of 3rd Street. Chestnut Street is (approx) the 50-yd line; Eagle Street is yds outside of the southern endzone. N. 2nd street would be the eastern hash marks...

We don't want to see Imminent Domain used for this project; just hope the Foundation, the neighbors and the University work together and get this DONE quicker rather than slower.

Yeah.. just don't see it happening how the Master Plan has it.. They'd have to buy Imperial Lanes and the ISFUC's 10 year old building.. Also don't see any parking for football in those plans.. (or tailgating for that matter)

Yeah; it's doubtful the University spent the time, money, energy with Ratio Architects, Inc. to use most of what ended up in the Master Plan.

Some basic questions; what are the pros and cons of field orientation, i.e. how much does it matter if the field runs North/South, East/West or our current Northwest/Southeast?

What is the LONG-term plan for the program (Michigan Stadium was built in 1927, original capacity 72,000 BUT Fielding Yost ensured they made plans for plenty of growth, today Michigan Stadium is 109,901).

I'm not saying we'll need 100,000 but let's build a 12,500 stadium that EASILY allows for growth to 25,000 or more.

I think an East/West design closer to the river would be great; design a horseshoe with the west end open.

As to parking/tail-gating... basically the same area; for NON-tailgaters; they can park in the Cherry Street Multi-Modal Transportation Facility and walk across campus; the students will be walking across 3rd Street...

I'm not worried about displacing the ISFCU... it is an ISU asset.

Imperial Lanes? Maybe they'll move operations...

I am not worried about the "option" to purchase or buy-out a buidling or company in the area....I am worried about ISU actually getting it done. I have never seen any business entity take longer to do anything than ISU does. Reading the article made me laugh out loud..."we made an offer but have not heard anything" BS! If you are in the business of obtaining land and property for the master plan then you don't wait for "them to call you back" you go find out the answer! And this is why it will take ISU FOREVER to get it done. FOREVER! Just to do something simple, they have to have a meeting about the meeting, to have a meeting about who will attend the meeting, to have a meeting about what happened in last weeks meeting, to have a meeting to create a committee to have a meeting about the mission, to have a meeting to take a vote to decide when the next meeting will take place, to have a meeting to decide to hire a consultant, to come in and have more meetings, to have a meeting to decide to implement a new plan, to have a meeting to backtrack and not implement a new plan, to have a meeting to approve the minutes from the last meeting which didn't have quorum so they couldn't have the meeting, to hold another meeting to have a nice lunch provided by Sodexho, to have a meeting to approve a change to next weeks agenda, to have a meeting to decide which staff member should call upon the owners of a property, to have a meeting to make sure that in deciding which staff member is giong to call upon the owners of the property it was determined which staff member fairly and without any preference or prejudice, to have a independent committee come in and review what has occurred in all these meetings and determine if the committee and all meetings were handled properly, to hold a meeting to approve the payment of the consultant for providing lackluster data and little if any usable data (of course they will approve payment for subpar work), to hold a semester end meeting that will include hotel rooms, presentations, cocktail hours and dinners for 3 nights in the most expensive location possible, so as to have another meeting while at the year end retreat someone can point out in passing that efficiency and effectiveness of anything that has happened over the entire semester is very, very poor and pathetic, soo.....

of course that person is the only productive individual in the entire situation and they will leave ISU as quickly as possible because they can't stand working in an environment where nothing productive happens!

So, do I think that this article means anything? Not really, because if recent events mean anything...it wiould take ISU more than a year to just complete some simple paperwork to transfer deed or title of property. ISU has such amazing potential and great leadership, but the problem is that Dr. Bradley can't do everything...he can only reach and oversee so much...

I'd like to schedule a meeting to discuss all this !:bigsmile:

It is sooo true. Try to get ahold of any administrator at ISU...and you will hear, "they are in a meeting right now". They are always in meetings..I used to spend over 25 hours per week in meetings when I was there.

if ISU were a private business and not REQUIRED to conform to a different set of rules, regulations...

if they could just bribe the local government officials to "condemn" the desired area...

every place (except 1-person small businesses) is burdened with a bureaucracy; definitely not a fan of it but when it comes to government entities obtaining private land... it understand it... ISU should BE a good neighbor, even if they ARE the 'biggest' neighbor in the neighborhood.

have to believe many, many folks THRIVE on the bureaucracy; up to Dr Bradley and his crew to keep on top of them.

Memo ?

We're going to need a meeting to disucss this whole memo issue.

Can we schedule a lunch meeting soon to plan the best time for the memo crisis meeting ?

Call me regarding the above (if I'm out, I'm likely in a meeting)

;)

I'm now involved in the business world. You'd be surprised how close this comes to reality. It's not just ISU, and I wouldn't put too much into the comment in the story. Sometimes a response like that is an easy way to avoid having to answer detailed questions.

It's life in a 21st century office; unless you're working in another environment (assembly line, retail, transportation, logistics, agriculture, etc) most of us are in meetings to prep for the meeting for that conference.

What has been described is not unique to ISU. It also aptly describes the U.S. Congress which in all is wisdom has created the need to hold meeting after meeting to determine if a turtle, or a Scrub Jay, or a multi colored frog might be displaced.
