Statistically speaking, we're damn near spitting images of each other. Only difference is that Illinois State found a way to win a couple games they shouldn't have as their Pyth record is 7-9 and ours is 9-6. The one spot where we're better is we're shooting 7% better from the line.

Sycamores should win this game by a couple on paper.

if there were ever a "guaranteed win" on our schedule, this is it. Illinois State, as long as Muller is coach, will never win in Terre Haute, they just always find a way to lose. They haven't won here since 2007.

Now this game will go as we all expect it to go, we'll get a huge lead at some point, but we'll let off the gas and Illinois State will catch back up, but in the end we'll win a close game, it may even take an overtime or two. Many of our games with ILS go to OT. So book this a win if there ever were one, and with WSU playing SIU this weekend, our win will propel us into a tie for 2nd place in the MVC with UNI looming in Terre Haute next week.

Easy there, Joe Namath.

I was always taught that there were only two certainties in life: death and taxes.

I definitely subscribe to the half-full case scenario, but I wouldn't go out on that limb with you. Make no mistake, Illinois State has talent in all the right places. Question is, can they put a full 40 minutes together @ Hulman?? #GoSycamores #Win #By1 [emoji1] [emoji122]

It seems like this could be said for both teams.

I think this game will tell us a lot regarding how we've progressed this year. It's a home game against a fairly equal opponent - a game we should win. If we have intentions of competing for a upper-half finish in the conference, this is a game we have to take. I'm feeling pretty good about where we are as a team right now, with continued room for improvement.

Look @ IL St's schedule and you'll see that they've had some "reasonable" pre-conf opposition w/ losses to San Diego St.,Maryland, TCU,UK & UAB. We've both whipped Drake & Loyola...so I say it's a toss up. The game will be decided in the front court, where IL St. has significantly more DEPTH than ISU. Matchups:

6'5" Purcell v. 6'2" Brown/Smith
6'8" Hawkins v. 6'5" Smith
6'0" Lee v. 6'0" Scott
6'7" McIntosh v. 6'7" Murphy
6'7" Griffin v. 6'6" Van Syoc
6-8" Banyard v. 6'6" Van Syoc

ISU front court stamina/rotation will be paramount. Stopping Purcell the key. See: IL St./Drake Box:

Basketball Gameday Central: Sycamores Host Redbirds In MVC Tilt Saturday

VKWOGQVUSKBMXHP.20160108213716.jpg

The Indiana State Sycamores continue Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday, January 9 as they return to Hulman Center and face off against Illinois State. The game is set for a 2:00 p.m. (ET) tip-off and can be heard locally on 95.9 FM The Duke as well as online via a link on GoSycamores.com. This game will be broadcast on the Missouri Valley Conference TV Network as well as world-wide on The Valley On ESPN3. The Sycamores are 8-7 on the season and 2-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play and are winners of five of their last six games. Indiana State led by 20 points at halftime and Devonte Brown posted a career-high 27 points in Wednesday night's 79-69 win at Drake. The Redbirds are winners of four in a row and currently stand at 9-7 overall and 3-0 in MVC play. DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell leads the way for Illinois State with a 16.1 ppg average. The Redbirds have held their opponents to 62 points or less during their four game winning streak.

I don't think you could consider Ilsu's games with Loyola and Drake a whipping....They could have easily lost both of them.

Agreed here, Drake had ILS down big at halftime, the Redbirds were able to come back to get the win. ILS was up big late in that Loyola game, then dumb plays by their players allowed Loyola to get a last shot at tying the game, or winning with a 3, Loyola didn't get a shot off, but they could have. ILS could have easily lost both games.

I'm still saying we win, but again, it will be close, as all our games with them usually are, but it'll be a Sycamore win and we'll be tied for 2nd place.

In my book, anytime you BEAT somebody, it's a "whipping." Maybe that's the problem w/ sport today...overlooking the fact that with a LOSS by 1 point or 50 pts., it's a 'friggin LOSS. Bottom line, the loser got his ass spanked!:beatingdeadhorse: After the game, which team is burning unnecessary neural energy by asking themselves, "What if...?"

Yes, you've identified what's really the problem with sports today: the semantics used to describe a loss.

In a blog, from a long long time ago, and after hittin' THE 'peace-pipe' at a SECRET SP meeting with the inner circles of SP, Bankshot was given the Indian name, Tongue-In-Cheek.

If you keep making post like this, you too may get an SP Indian name. I've got several already, that come to mind.

Not really sure who the "thanks" goes to (Prettyman, MVC, or both) but the television coverage for ISU has moved up a notch. Noticing the ESPN3 coverage has been available on the ESPN College Extra sports package a fair amount and then we are still picked up on regional sports channels as before... For whatever reason, in-state rival UE does not get near the coverage as I have many MVC teams listed as favorites so my cable provider finds the games automatically.
Television Particulars
The Illinois State game will be cleared live on FOX Sports Midwest, FOX Sports Indiana and FOX Sports Kansas City (combined 5.8 million homes), Comcast SportsNet Chicago (4.9 million homes), ESPN3 (outside the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri), DirecTV (FOX - Channel 671; Comcast - Channel 665), Dish Network (FOX - Channel 418; Comcast - Channel 429), AT&T U-Verse (Channel 748) and AT&T U-Verse HD (Channel 1748).

I even get to watch on Fox on Charter Cable down here in Georgia as well as all the games on ESPN3 naturally.

Looks like it could be our usual kind of game - get a lead, give it back & hopefully regain the momentum. We have lots of practice doing it. Illinois State seems to be able to get over the hump and keep it though? A down to the wire kind of game again.

BATTLING BACK
In six of Illinois State's nine victories this season, the Redbirds have overcome deficits of eight points or more. In all three of the Redbirds' Missouri Valley Conference wins, ISU has overcome deficits of 12 or more points (down 13 vs. Missouri State, Dec. 30; down 12 at Drake, Jan. 3; down 13 vs. Loyola, Jan. 6). Illinois State's wins over Missouri State and Loyola marked the 25th and 26th times in program history, respectively, that ISU has overcome a deficit of 13 points or more to win.
