Lethargic, players & coaches...wish I'd stayed home & watched Andy of Mayberry reruns! Opie complaining to Aunt Bea about getting the crabs in PE class would've been more exciting!
Do you have any info as to what was the cause? Let-down after a big win, lack of respect for Truman, or just the up-and-down stuff we have had in the past?
Play to your competition. It's just normal. All teams and individuals in athletics do it.
Many teams to play down to the competition at times, some most of the time. Those teams who fall into this pattern are going to get an L in a game they easily should have won. Quality teams seem to never allow "poor competition" to be in the hunt. They go after weaker teams with a killer instinct. This instinct has been discussed here several times. To me it seems that these ISU teams are too much an extension of their coach. Greg Lansing is basically a nice guy; I fear his teams follow his example.
I think 10000 screaming fans would help bring out the killer in a team. But last night, I turned on the Illinois game and the St. Johns game and neither team was "killing" the the other team the way they should have.
College athletics is a rough life, dedicating many hours every day and the mental pressure to play at your peak beats on these guys all the time. It's natural to take a breather when you can. I assume you have some time at work when you like to lean back and relax or perform some routine, easy task.
'Backer, you've virtually brought tears to my eyes, wondering how over the 50 yrs. of watching college basketball I've overlooked this suffering. It almost almost borders on negligence & child abuse. Just think...after the four (4) yrs (in a RS's case, five (5) years) of collegiate punishment, they can then embark on a new quest for discovering life's meaning virtually DEBT FREE. WWT the Lord could be so cruel?
I think they enjoy it and are, in some ways, living a dream. I don't hear them complaining. I did talk to a dad of a baseball player at UE that played minor league ball and he said they worked out something like 5 hours a day in college. He said if he had it to do over again, he would have just gone straight to the pros and skipped college. He was studying actuarial science. A little harder than sports administration or general studies.
I hope you don't think they have it easy? You are right, it is not cruel and a lot of kids would like the opportunity to do it. But it still has pressures and I think players can get worn down mentally over a season. I think that's why freshmen sometimes hit a wall, although part of that could be physical.
I agree with the worn down --mentally and physically--over the course of a long season. I believe a lot of ISU folks and coaching staff felt that's what happened to the Sycamores last season as they started off like storm troopers and then faded down the stretch in the heat of the battle!I think they enjoy it and are, in some ways, living a dream. And the best part of playing college ball is the fact that anytime you or your team fails to play a perfect game you get to be called out on it by old has beens or never was people anonymously on a message board. The same people that are perfect and give 110% each and everyday at their job, especially on Mondays and Fridays.
Who wouldn't want to be part if the team with those perks!!!
Hey BT, or Mr. Give It All, or I'm better than everyone else....cause you always give it 110%, every day of the week, vs. everyone else...who only gives it all on Monday and what, Friday? Personally, I go for it on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but that's just me.
But back to your post....isn't this like the Pot calling the Kettle Black? Really. You're calling people out for being Old Has Beens, or Never Was People....and you're doing that ANONYMOUSLY...on a Message Board, where people are ANONYMOUS...like yourself.
You're just a lil bit better than all the other losers, old has beens, and never were fuck nothing people on here, right?
You're kinda like that other ANONYMOUS blogger on here the other day....your intolerance towards old fucks and never were nobodies, has a special kind of devotion to your own opinion, without regard to their membership in the OFC, the ROFC, or HBC (Has Been Club).

Curious .....how many hrs per day would you expect an ISU athlete that is receiving a full ride scholarship to commit and excel in his designated sport?
How many hours per day do u think ISU All American John Mascari dedicated to his sport during the last twenty five weeks as mentioned in todays article?
I'm not sure you understood his post.
