I've been following him on Tweeter and he remarks that he has been in Terre Haute. Is he enrolled in Summer school? He frequently mentions hangin' with Lathan and McWhorter. Anybody know for certain what the deal is with him?

He is working out with the team and he rooms with Lathan.

Well since you seem to have the 411 on Smith can you tell us if he is going to be playing for the Sycamores in 2011-2012? Not an attempt on my part to attack him or deface his image that you seem to want to personally protect even when he's not taking any heat - rather questions from many on what the story is here?

If you are someone who believes in the "mind your own business, why does it matter" camp? Not saying you are that person, just protecting myself if someone is.

Twitter and Facebook often times provide more questions than answers and in the case of Smith that seems to be the case. So is this still a wait and see issue?

Seems to me that he is a kid that the staff is committed to, whether that's for 11-12 or 12-13. They are, it seems, planning on having him in blue at some point. Otherwise, why would he be rooming with DLate?

If we are trully after the Gonzaga kid, then Smith will not be available this year.
I'm a little curious too SSOM, but I think that horse left the barn. It's really not important whether it's this year or next year.

Well neither kid would be eligible for this year. Both would come in with the 2012 class.

Goldens article on Manny sheds some light on Smith.

"Arop will use the scholarship intended for Khristian Smith, who is currently a non-qualifier. Smith still intends to play basketball at ISU and is still trying to change his academic status. He is enrolled for the 2011-12 academic year, but can only have limited contact with the team and cannot practice or play until he is in good academic standing per NCAA regulations"

I also think he loses a year of eligibility doesnt he? If he becomes eligible he has 3 years to play? Someone with more know on this chime in please. I had that pop in my head lookin at Jasons eligibility chart.

Someone had mentioned earlier, I think, that the player had to "ask" for a fourth year if they had made academic progress and that it is usually granted.

Now that coach has announced publicly what Khristian's situation is, it was not my news to break to the public. He is not currently enrolled in classes this summer term, but it is my understanding he will be next summer term.

Hopefully, he can get his academic issue resolved(still working on it)and be available this year. Strength in numbers of talent.

Here is the latest on Khristian Smith.....

Khristian is attending Summer classes at ISU.

If he is successful, he will be eligible to play this year.

I thought we were out of scholarships??

Good question.....someone on here will be able to answer.

I just know if he is successful with his classes, he is eligible to play this year.

So to read the tea leaves......if there's no scholarships, does this mean Lansing is pulling a Crean to get Smith a scholarship?

Wasn't the recent departure of Bobby Capobianco, from IU a forced headcount adjustment to make room for other incoming players?

I don't know of anybody that does not have enough talent to play. It could be someone that has lost interest or does not have a good enough work ethic.

Maybe someone went on an academic scholie?
That may be the case, but I am sure that Smith isn't the recipient of an academic scholarship. Possibly another incoming frosh but obviously, not Khristian. I'd say we all need to sit back and see how all this plays out. I hope that Khristian is in summer school, as I have heard he will be. Then it is up to him if he makes it or not.
