it's a battle for the cellar, hopefully ISU is on the winning end of this one!

Just checking in. 17-16 in favor of the Sycamores with just under four to play in the first.

Just got home and that was an ugly ball game... It's good to see a team from Indiana State win for a change, but it wasn't easy on the eyes! lol

Thought the walk on from THS (Smith) played VERY well on the defensive side of the ball, she played some big minutes for the Sycamores tonight!

Offensively the Sycamores showed signs of life with Luna hitting that deep contested three at the end of the shot clock and with Schoen hitting two threes. There were a lot of positives from this game though. 13 assists off of 19 makes is pretty good especially when your struggling offensively. The Sycamores also got a big lead in the second half again but continued to fight and kept their intensity high and showed a little emotion out there. That is what will win ball games in the Valley. They won't all be pretty, but if you can out hustle and keep the morale high you can compete with any team.

Krista Smith Shines

Krista Smith played very well, in my opinion, offensively and defensively. She was credited with only one steal but forced at least three jump balls with her aggressiveness. On another occasion, she forced the Evansville offensive player to step out-of-bounds.

What's wrong with Chelsea Buher?

Agreed on Krista's play...she was as aggresive as I've seen a Sycamore be all season. She deserves more PT after tonites game. We still got some girls recovering from injuries including Chelsea. I thought Taylor played pretty well at times tonite and late we was able to step up the pressure even more and knock down some outside shots. Good to get a win regardless.

Sage, I was not aware of the fact that Smith was only credited with 1 steal. I am most posititve she had 3 steals becuase I can name them. She forced 3 or 4 jump balls and she forced the UE girl to dribble the ball out of bounce on the west sideline (opposite of the bench).

Granted 1 of the steals she had, she gained possession and then fell out of bounce herself - but I would have given her the steal.

Steals are a hard stat to rely on. Sometimes someone else gets credit for another player's work.

At least two times that Smith got tied up with an Evansville player, the ball went back to Evansville which isn't credited as a steal. Also, when you throw the ball to the other team when diving out of bounds, you usually aren't given a steal because you would have to be given a turnover as well.

bent20 is right, steals are not always the best stat to rely on. Smith played with great energy and really helped ISU grab the win over the Aces.

Ok fine... I was at the game and I saw the impact that she had on the game. I aint a book keeper, I realize that forcing a jump ball does not count for a steal directly. But it does translate into your team getting the ball the next jump ball and I think that's a pretty significant stat in a close game especially if the opponent has an empty possession... It's the fact that she was putting pressure on the other players, the fact of the matter is she was credited with one steal and that's incorrect however you want to look at it.

I don't think anyone was disagreeing with you, Morgan. Just because her effort didn't show up in the stat line doesn't mean it wasn't signficant.
