Did anyone else hear Greg Lansing on the radio with Brian Dorsett, I believe it was yesterday? Dorsett asked him who had improved the most since last year and he said EVERYONE had improved something, whether its their shot, strength, ballhandling....That's good to hear.

Also, Lansing singled out Odum and said that he has been great in team workouts/scrimmages(whatever they have been doing). Said that some people may have doubted ISU signing him, but "the kid can flat out play." Also said that RJ has gained quite a bit of weight.

I could have told you all that about Odum months ago - the dude handles the ball to well and has a great feel for the game! That kid is going to be a good division 1 ball player - just give him a chance!

Are you talking to me? I love the kids game and was one of the first people on here way back pumping him up. Hell, I joined this board over a year before you did. I only saw probably 80% of his games from his freshman year of high school to his last game in the regional last year! Jeez, if we could all only be as smart as you Morgan.

He wasn't talking to you....... He was referring to the people that doubted or poopoo-ed the signing of Jake, not you individually............

By the way, I'm sorry that you have to watch THS basketball so much...... At least Jake was there to watch I guess......... JK

I actually did not think Jake could play at our level while he was a Junior in HS...... Too much flare, showboating, and not a good enough shot...... I watched him during the Jamboree and a few of his games early in his senior and changed my mind. I changed my mind because of his defensive ability. He is under-rated defensively..... He is a good ball-handler and dribbles the ball low to the floor, which I love and for the life of me was unable to teach any of the kid I coached to do that.

Jake is not a great shooter....... but he wants to be. By that I mean, he is dedicated and determined to develop his shot..... You could see it in warmups last year.....He got to the basket too easy in high school. He didn't have to shoot, but he won't be able to get to the hole that easy in college.

Jake is going to be a fine player. I'm not sure we are ever going to see him score 20 points, but I do think that we will see a lot of games where he ends up with 9 assists and 5 steals....... He plays smart and you have to like that......

Ok. Good enough.

I agree with your post 100%. I made a post very similar to yours several months ago. He will never lead us in scoring, but I could see 10pts, 4rbs, 5assts, 2stls, 1blk or something like that before he's done. He reminds me a lot of Rajon Rando.(I'm not saying he's as good) Rando is not a great shooter but he's a good ballhandler, slasher, assist guy. Odum, like Rando, has long arms and lanky.

His shot improved greatly between his Junior and Senior years. Hopefully he has continued to really work on this. If he can knock down a decent percentage of his 3's, he is going to be a matchup problem.

BTW, I went to several THN games last year and over the years. Heck, I graduated from THN. A couple things though, THN was horrible last year and THN just plays a boring style of basketball. Its like watching paint dry at times. The best THS teams have always been better than the best THN teams.

I think when the two Jakes are on the floor together, opponents better be on their toes, because there's no telling who's going to end up with the ball. Those guys will get it where it needs to go and it will be very entertaining basketball!

I would like to see the first game, and see if Jake Odum gets a chance at starting at shooting guard. I'd also like to see RJ play some early in the season too, especially with the great shot he has for a 6'8 player. I think it will be a very interesting 2009-10 season for Indiana State. This would be a good year, for us to play IU, especially with the lack of talent that IU has had the past 2 seasons. If we played them this year, which we won't but we could really put a pounding on IU, and some good teams this year.

If Jake starts at 2 in the first game, that would mean there are about 4 Sycamores that are not nearly as good as I thought they were and we're in for a long season.

I won't disagree with this statement.........

THN is very close to being a very good team.........

They have a few young guards that are supposed to be tough this year........

Anybody remember former ISU PG Rob Vicars??? One of the better true PGs that ever played here. His son will be playing at THN this year. Correct me if I am wrong....

I know who Rob Vicars is but not sure who his son is. A good PG is what has been THNs problem for several years. I now they have a couple freshman coming in that are good. Sydney Moore and ? Jahn who are both PGs. Along with another Blank and AJ Grady. THS, and many other teams have just destroyed THN with their guards.

LOL - You obviously missed the Nate Mills/Larry Deakins years...:krazy:

No. Too young. I was talking about all-time though. THN has had some good teams no doubt, but even the Nate Mills teams didn't win the Semi-state. THS has had several more Indiana All-Stars, they are tied at 18 sectional wins apiece, but THS has won 11 regionals to THN's 6, 4 Semi-States to 0, and been to 5 Final Fours compared to 0 for THN. THS also went the first 25 or so years of the shools existance without a losing season. THS has also produced more D-1 talent than THN has. THS is also up in the all-time series. THN has caught up some here. Also, a good season for THN is 15-8. THS will win 20-22 games.

I was @ Roberts Stadium when Mills blew a layup v. Jeffersonville in the Championship game...instead of following "bankshot" principles on a breakaway, he opted to go over the front of the rim and you guessed it...it caromed off the back of the rim and THN blows the game.

The BEST HS hoop in TH used to be played @ Garfield & Gerstmeyer...not sure why the shift of power, but I'm sure the population growth of the SOUTH part of town had to be a contributing factor.

I've heard about that. My dad played junior high ball with Nate Mills and was pretty good friends with him.

Dont think there is any point arguing the facts!

And the "facts" say that THS has NOT always been better than THN...

His quote was: The best THS teams have always been better than the best THN teams.

If THS has 4 Semi-State champions... and THN has 0, there really isn't an argument to that is there?

Nope -YEAHHHHH South side prominence! Ya wanna fight over it??? lol

Syd - I know Vicars, he can still hoop it up pretty good. But I couldn't tell you a thing about his son. I know you are a loyal North sider though... lol

i think if you look at the last 16 years or so north has dominated the sectional. something like 9 wins to 3 for south and 2 for martinsville and one for northview and mooresville. this is close but don't hold me to it exactly

I didn't mean to imply that North hasn't been successful.... or that South is always better... I was just pointing out what the guy's quote was... and that particular statement probably can't be argued.

Being a native, I know that when the two teams match up, it really doesn't matter too often who the better team is... it's going to be a close game. And just like most things (including the current MLB all-star streak), things like this are "cyclical".
