Fouch threw for 330 yards and we led at half while visiting NDSU. Anyone know how their pass defense looks this year? Could be a great game... Our strengths might exploit a weakness in them. Go Trees!

They have a pretty good corner...from what I see they play alot of zone...will be useful for us to get bell going...even though some bison fan came on here saying: "dont even think about running"...our running game should be established well.

We have never been able to run the ball effectively against them, but we are a much better rushing team than we've been. I agree, we will need to establish that we can run the ball though; it should be interesting. Marcus Williams is probably the best CB in the conference, and is dynamic when he gets his hands on the ball. We need Hilton to have a game like he had against WKU. I think we have a great chance to win this game.

Our offense really bogged down at times against Illinois State's aggressive D. We can't have that happen again. Maybe use a few more screens with Bell, Lough, whoever?

I gotta think (hope, really) that the O-line injuries had a lot to do with our offensive problems. Not so much the drops by the receivers, but the constant pressure on Ronnie. With a couple of weeks' rest, maybe we'll be back to our usual protection for our QB...

Our passing game has been inconsistent all season though. We have breakout games and then no-show games. Definitely need big performances from here on out. If we can't beat NDSU at home, I'm not sure how far we'd get in the playoffs, if we make them.

Believe me, the dropped passes are a momentum-breaker...

Indiana State had a chance to go up early on Illinois State on the first offensive drive if not for three dropped passes on the opening drive. The last of those drops would have probably broke through for a touchdown.

If the Sycamores would have scored on that opening drive, especially after starting the possession on their own 4-yard line, that would have really put the Redbirds on their heels.

But with the drive bogging down, it gave the Illinois State team a boost.

I really think stylistically we could take a lesson from the Colts. Those Stretch running plays could really help out our line and our Passing game in the play-action.
Shakir as well is a natural Stretch style runner, his ability to cutback is the pinnacle of Stretch running styles (See Terrell Davis, Clinton Portis). I have noticed the intelligence of Bell especially as of late, Linebackers are over pursuing to stop him regularly and his cutback field vision is great. Turns a 2 yard carry into a 6 yard Carry.

We have 1 Corner who I believe will be an All-American Marcus Williams, Colton Heagle The SS is a Beast he hits you you know it, Daniel Eaves is a great defender not a Ball Hungry as Williams, Ariel Boyd has played Steller also.

Much better all around Defensive Backfield than last year as we picked up the CB coach from UNI over the off season.

The speed and play of the DB's will be very Similar to UNI.

Running the ball Bell will have a good game, we are young at ur Interior D line, but once they adjust they can usually get the Run game shut down. Colter Boyer a DE is also IMO one of the best in FCS.

our next 2 games are going to be the test

We do a pretty good job of getting our guys out on the exterior no matter the defense...the key will be being unpredictable.

Some of those no show games were Shakir running for the endzone every carry

It's become clear we're mostly a big play offense though. We don't have many long, sustained scoring drives. It's either a quick score with Bell or through the air, or a three and out.

Good point--I've heard Shakir Bell mention thim in interviews.

Yes, but certainly not the first time it's been mentioned on this board. I've noted that guys are more motivated to keep blocking when they have a RB who breaks long gains regularly. You'll notice it's not just the receivers but Lough and everyone else as well.

Quite right. I'm sure that no one realizes this more than Shakir, closely followed by Trent Miles.

ISU has to establish Bell to win against NDSU. Last year the trees couldn't run at all against us.

Fouchs started the game out hot, hitting receivers in the middle of the field (weakness of tampa 2). However, the inability to run the ball led to Fouch getting beat up pretty bad the last three quarters. Its when Fouch's was running for his life that he made some bad decisions leading to a couple int's.

Bell will probably have some success, but we don't give up many big plays on defense. When teams get inside the 20, our defense really clamps down and its hard to score 7 against us.

Our defense creates a lot of turnovers, the key for ISU is to not turn the ball over. If the trees lose the turnover battle, they will lose the game. Its gonna be a great game on saturday, and games like these are why college football rocks.

I think bell will get his 150. The key will be the passing game getting rolling and our offensive line being healthy. When healthy, we can beat anyone.

We all agree on that.

I think even with everything else operating on all cylinders, Bell will probably need 200 for us to have a better shot at beating the Bison.

Course, 200 means that Bell runs the ball 7 times for a 28yd average :)
