How do you guys think the loss of Rick Minter and Mike Simmonds will affect the team as they move forward? I know Minter was basically the DC and Simmonds was big part of the success of the Offense. Will the defense change or will they still be a 3-4??

nothing changes....

Harold Etheridge, who shared the offensive line coaching duties with Mike Simmonds this past season, is now totally in charge of the offensive line.....and the defensive scheme remains the same....the DB coach worked with Minter at Marshall and will share the same role now that Minter did last year.....

trent is currently looking for some coaching staff additions....

at the present time.....

to replace Simmonds, Minter and the WRs coach, who has decided to leave the coaching profession and get married.....

the rumor is that Trent has some people in mind to come in, including an older coach in the mold of a Raetz or Minter....who has major college coaching experience....to lend his expertise.......to the coaching mix......

I'm sure we'll see some top talent emerge soon with spring ball almost here. I'm excited we have Englehart and Jackson around for a smooth transition at the coordinator level. Realistically our coaching losses could be a lot worse.

I hate to see this happen as it is a stark reminder that our budget can't afford to keep decent coaches from going elsewhere.
Although there are a number of golf outings planned this summer to benefit the football program, we really need a big increase in gate revenue to continue coach Miles' plan to build a successful program. If this doesn't happen in the next few years, forget about building a new on-campus football stadium down the road.........unless there's a sugar-daddy that's willing to contribute millions.

this happens at ALL FCS institutions when you bring in top tier coaches like ISU has lately...Rick Minter? Troy Walters? All of those guys have FBS written all over them from their experiences...I mean the key thing is to produce highly intelligent players that come back to be coaches, that's what all of these other schools do...

You are right. It's an ongoing process because when these returning coaches gain experience they move on to higher $$ positions. You can't blame them. We just have to go with the next man up in coaching as we do with injuries. Sad, but true. We are lucky to get them for a year or 2.

As long as we get new young energetic guys with good backgrounds from good programs we'll be ok.Better players always make coaches a lot smarter too.Hopefully that will continue as the program has more success.
