I see 2 ways of viewing this.

1. They did the right thing and made the decision not to participate.

2. They did this on their own in hopes that deeper investigation more violations or more severe violations could be uncovered. These could bring even more severe penalties.

I tend to follow #2 logic. What about you?

At first glance I felt bad for the 2 5th year guys who won't get to play in the tourney..then digging deeper they were both 5th yr guys who transferred from mid major schools that invested 4 years in them and helped make them into good players. Not a big fan of the 5th yr rule and the way it handicaps the mid majors even more than they already are.

Self imposed is always the way to go... We all know why they did, they were guilty of what they had been accused of. At this point I'd say the message has been sent and delivered. The NCAA may or may not come down on them harder, as far as I a am concerned enough damage has been done to that program. Some would call for more - I say the message was received. I just wish they'd acted a little quicker, took them long enough.

BTW...you can tell who the U of L fans are. Also makes you wonder if ISC used the "local resources" of Terre Haute in the 2nd & Canal neighborhood when recruiting in the 50's & 60's?

ISU would not have had to pay for the treat back then. They would just have had to point them in the right direction. A great time in the Haute!

Keep hearing and seeing the effectiveness of bringing in the 5th yr grad players. Do our coaches actively recruit this resource? With the outstanding athletic training reputation among other majors I would think we would have something to offer them?

I'm not a fan of the "5th Yr. Transfer" rule...it favors major programs by extracting mid-major athletes who were redshirted and the institution who paid the price of DEVELOPMENT is left holding an empty bag. For mid-majors LOSING a 5th yr. player, they should be fiscally remunerated for their loss. This rule encourages "tampering" and is unethical to college sports.

I wonder where Brenton Scott will finish his career after next season?

CBS sports has an article that UL was being "selfish" and it screws the two players. I have a hard time feeling sorry for them. Are they going to college to play basketball or get an education? They got 5 years of free education. Why don't we just start awarding lifetime scholarships? :freaked: These people that believe in 5-6 years of scholarships aren't considering the 18 yr old that is just trying to get his FIRST year of scholarship. And he might be wanting to actually go to college for the academics.

Lived in Jones Hall Fall, '69 & '70...never visited those places of "moral repute." Plenty of action on campus, w/ a lil' strategy implemented.:serenade:

We all know that a lot of recruits get laid. UL is probably ashamed that they couldn't provide volunteers.

They don't call it "Yum Brands" for nothing...flavor counts, otherwise they could just drive down Muhammed Ali Blvd. and solicit a busload full of candidates!

I am not in favor of it either. It is an ignorant rule, like playing for the Cubs (until recently) most of your career and finishing with the Yankees (back when they were the Yankees). But if you can't beat them, might as well join them to try and snatch an experienced component for your team.

No sympathy for them at all. The way the NCAA makes decisions and implement new rules the players can probably petition for one more year somewhere else...........and probably get it granted?
