TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State University and Head Football Coach Curt Mallory have agreed to a contract extension that will keep Mallory in the Blue and White through the 2027 season.

Oh Sherard, you're a funny one. Mallory's last two seasons he was 5-7 and 5-6....gets a 5 year contract extension.

Lansing, on the other hand, finishes 15-10 and 18-12...fired.

I know it's not EXACTLY apples to apples, but it's not far off.

What exactly are ISU's standards when it comes to football? I suppose if the expectation is that we have 3 automatic losses every season: FBS game, NDSU, and SDSU; then our last two seasons have been winning seasons against common opponents. If the expectation is FCS playoffs then I'm confused on a through 2027 extension. Does anyone know when his contract was going to be up before this extension?

He had 2 years left....this year included (last contract was "through" 2023). That ILSU win was huge. As far as the Lansing comparison I'll just say Mallory has an MVFC-average budget and hovered just below .500. Fine....especially considering the facilities he has to work with. Lansing had the worst budget in the MVC and had back-to-back winning seasons, made the Arch Madness semi's, and won 11 of his last 13 and then....

I'm sure it didn't hurt that Curt Mallory is a really, really good dude. However, good guy aside, I think it's totally fair for ISU fans to expect an FCS Playoff birth this year or next. Curt has had plenty of time to build a program, has a healthy contract to show recruits he'll be at ISU for a while, and most seasons all you have to do is finish in the top half of the league and you're in the Playoffs (or at the very least on the bubble).

Did the article provide that? Not sure... he is on an automatic 1-yr renewal, so a perpetual 5-yr deal? that's fairly common -- shows commitment, stability to recruits, mommys and the daddys

hovered under .500 for the past (three) two seasons... ISU career, he's still under .400 in both Valley Football and overall - .344 & .378 respectively...
1st season will be an albatross in calculating W/L records -- arguably more of a albatross in football with it's small schedules but based on W/L %%... well under .500

If this season isn't .500+ how is a 5-yr extension justifiable?

I think this is a good time for all the ISU football haters to come on board and do some more hating. Or it may be a good time to plan your fall schedules around ISU football. You make the choice. Be a winner or be a loser.

ISU MBB program w/l of 1,515-1,302 (.538), 11 conf titles, 26 post-season berths, (naia, ncaa), advanced to 5 national titles games, (1-4 record), 2 national semi-finals
ISU Football program w/l of 401-544-23 (.426) 1 conf title, 4 post-seasons berths, 2 post-season wins

hate, don't hate... let the numbers tell the story

Remember we are not paying full cost of attendance for football like some other MVFC programs. Does anyone know who is and who is not?

I could’ve sworn a recruit posted his ISU scholarship offer on Twitter a year or two ago and it included some FCOA money.

I don’t think the football budget by other schools reflects that number. I think that benefit to students falls under athletic administration….but I could be wrong

Honestly don't think it matters. The whole house of cards is being held up by student fees and our enrollment has sharply declined. I didn't get a math degree, but one would say there isn't going to be more money to be had.
