I expect them both to be competitive. I've been hearing people hate on ISU sports since I enrolled in 1979. I believe if people would support instead of hate we could have many successful sports programs here.

No argument but the university needs to be committed and that's not always been the case for either sport and in today's environment, I don't know if Ind State CAN afford the cost to support both in the manner they NEED to be supported to be competitive - regardless of league affiliation.

They can still the bill to the current student base but that's not necessarily a winning formula

Oh Sherard, you're a funny one. Mallory's last two seasons he was 5-7 and 5-6....gets a 5 year contract extension.

Lansing, on the other hand, finishes 15-10 and 18-12...fired.

I know it's not EXACTLY apples to apples, but it's not far off.
He gave this 5 year extension just last year??? Oh Lord have mercy on all of us! Shouldn't have gave him anything. Now he's going to get well over a million dollars just to run the program even farther into the ground than it already is.

where's your Hate-O-Meter?

So... people only expect the MBB program to be "Hugely Successful," while the football team can be sub-mediocre?:unsure::unsure:
Seriously, what IS the problem that prevents us from at least being competitive? Mallory seems solid, or at least as good as we can get. I understand the stadium is an issue — what else?

$$$$$$

More $$$ pays for more, better scouting/recruiting to ID talent, sign talent
attract better coaches, provide more bling for players

$$$ drives everything in college sports

Need all levels, types of support; butts in sheets, PayPal'ing, Venmo'ing, bootlegging attache cases of foldable $$$; hell - loose gems, gold bars, cashiers checks

NOT just posting and wearing a 23-yo NCAA 2d Round T-Shirt, Cap from the Menser-Renn era

A Hate-O-Meter Vis-Aid

Sycamores far from competing in MVFC ..... $$$$ or not & unless another Mark Cuban comes along that factor will not change. Seriously need to begin to phase out football. Wont say nobody cares but only a damn few do.

True -- course, how many of ISU's "Mark Cubans" are FANATICAL Tree fans? and virtually NONE are as... vocal, known, infamous?? as Cuban?

Personally I believe one of ISU's biggest problems is that they compete in a league where the top teams are in the national championship discussion every single year. The MVFC currently has 7 teams in the top 25, and 5 in the top 15. In order for the program to succeed it has to be elevated into a top 20 program in all of FCS, and currently ISU would still only be in the middle of the pack if they were the 20th best team in all of FCS.

If the MVFC was an FBS conference it would regularly be better than the CUSA and MAC, and would be about even with the Sun Belt. SDSU and NDSU would still likely receive top 25 rankings every once in a while.

I still believe that if ISU was in the OVC for football-only it would really help the program. The teams in that league are more at our level. Currently they have one team in the top 25 (UTM @ #14). I don't think we would win that league very often, but there isn't a single team in that conference that I don't think we can't compete with when it comes to recruiting, facilities, budgets, fan support, etc.

I would like to see hard facts that we would be competitive in the OVC if you know what I mean. :sneaky:

Here's a "news source" that will burst your bubble...

The mighty Mo Valley FBall Conf is behind ALL of the FBS conferences... - trail C-USA by a football, the MAC by more and the Sun Belt even more

Note that I said regularly and not every single year.

So... you see facts that contradict your... opinion and you're going to "dig in..."

 How far back do you wish to see, **ck will ACCEPT hard data to counter your... perspective?

I just went back 10 years. If you want to go back farther you're welcome to. Half of the OVC teams today are not teams that were in the OVC even as recent as just a few years ago, which is why I broke the data into two.

You did ISU opponents NOT MVFC "outscoring" C-USA, Sun Belt and MAC

Pick an argument - ISU in OVC

or MVFC "better than FBS"

Here's what I think would happen if we went OVC for football. We would have a year or two in the upper half of the conference. Then we would resume being a 2-9 team because no one has ever had actual expectations for ISU football. That's not gonna change because the whole "we don't have enough money to be good" mind parasite has infected the school. So try going OVC. Nothing would change because ISU wouldn't expect it to change.
