Anyone see this?

Beginning next year, the #1 overall seed will get to pick their home site for the first and second rounds. I don't know if that will basically mean the region or if the NCAA Selection Committee will just set those home sites into the region they want, but I found that an interesting perk for those top teams to shoot for as some teams will shut it down in the conference tournament looking towards the NCAA tournament.

Don't they usually give the overall #1 seed the most favorable home site anyway?? I feel like they are always put in the closest proximity to "home" anyway for being the #1 seed??

Yep, for the most part. Sometimes they will give them the region that will have them play the closest to home further on in the tournament. From what I understand here, they can pick any venue and it becomes the first couple rounds and then they'd still get the back half favorable placement as well.

Basically it seems like they're trying to guarantee the #1 overall seed makes it to the Final Four.

Agree -- the #1 seeds (in general) have few roadblocks placed in their way to the final four; people have long complained about the 'fact' that ucla (under wooden) "always played at home..." and it's true that ucla rarely ventured from the West Coast in the ncaa tourney... but if you compare ucla to north carolina or duke; all three have LONG enjoyed playing 'at home'

The last thing #1 seeds need is fewer challenges BUT keep in mind who 'runs' the ncaa... the power 5

I get the logic that it might create less resistance from them making it to the final 4. However, I think these #1 seeds usually have much much bigger fan bases than other teams so I think it is all about the money. Most of the time those #1 seeds are going to last at least into the sweet 16 and having them closer to home throughout the tourney assures good attendance as long as they are still play.

Other than that I don't think it makes it all that much easier for them to make it to the Final 4 - just my opinion though. I think in the tourney anything can happen and they still have to show up or they get beat - that will never change in my mind.
