The Varsity Level
Alright, I have read most of your comments on here. Here is myself and SGA trying to do our part. We have issued the challenge. Operation 10k. We want 10,000 people in the seats. If our Athletic Director wants fans in the stands to bring playoff football to ISU then we accept his challenge. There is a lot of negatively on here and for good reason. But previous games are history. Accept this challenge. Spread the word. Hype the game this Saturday. Coach Miles tells his team to go 1-0 every week. It's time us fans worry about going 1-0. Worry only about Illinois State. Here is the video SGA has created to promote the game. A flyer is coming tomorrow as well. Take this video and share it Facebook, Twitter, everywhere!!

I know 10k is a loftly goal, but if we never aim for the moon, how do we expect to ever get there? Let's do this guys!

Great effort Sycamorelynch. As of this moment, the weather actually looks a little better, and warmer, than last week. Note: stay tuned, we have a weather phenomenon going on. I will keep you informed on any changes, since ISU taught me how to be a weather guy. (I might add, I have been 100% accurate on homecoming weather the past 3 years. As I just wrote you, SL, hopefully we can meet this weekend. I look forward to it. GAME ON. Go Trees~

I like the video can you get it out to the local tv sports guys and let them work their magic about getting it on air ? I know Jason Penske has a lot of pull down at WTWO and he is a genuine Sycamore fan and an all around good guy . I know you could get on the early morning and afternoon shows with your cause if you just call both 2 and 10 .

Another thought, generally speaking, about promoting games. We need to appeal to more than just people's interest in football and seeing a competitive game. Although that is enough for many. We need to make it more personal. We need to get more Terre Hautians to take pride in what the team is doing, that pride that got everyone so excited back in 79. We need them to see this as a big accomplishment and to understand it's a bigger deal than beating IU. Not as easy when your bragging rights are over people from the Dakotas and Missouri (no offense to those fans) and you're not getting big play on ESPN, but I really think that is where we can make the most ground. We just need to find a way to get that message across. Easy for me to say when I live more than 300 miles away.

I think it's great what SycamoreLynch has been doing!

The weekly Sycamore Athletics E-mail has been sent out - basically this gives updates about everything Sycamore Athletics.

Catholic Charities and American Red Cross
1. Wear Blue
2. Bring cash or food item donation
3. Get Admission to the game for FREE

Just received this e-mail from one of the coaches wives. The flyers that had been created for this promo were both less than impressive. At least they are trying to do something.

Personally I would argue that they are de-valuing the game by trying to open it up free or finding gimmicks to make it free. I think we've tried this in the past and it doesn't seem to boost attendance. This is for a good cause though - with everything going on out East so it kind of makes sense.

I know they tried to open up a Basketball game for free twoish years ago, and it was easily the highest attendance I witnessed my entire four years there. Make it free and throw in a gimmick like a blue out and I think they could get a lot more people there.

Yeah I am glad they are trying to do something and to throw in supporting a good cause in the process by brining a canned good or something makes sense like I said above.

I'm not trying to be negative - I was posting the two e-mails that I got today to point out a few of the things that were being done. One thing that I didn't post:

This Saturday is the United Way Goose Poop race at Hawthorn Park - the race concludes in the morning. All 80 of the children signed up to race will receive a free voucher to get into the game - obviously in hopes that the parents will also take the kid(s) to the game.

Just passing things along as I see them. Hopefully these efforts increase attendance!

I posted over on the Illinois State message board for all their fans to bring as many people as they can to the game too, always helps to have a large visitors crowd too

I learned you can't simply let people in for free or they will only come to games when they are free. Donating 5 pounds of items is easily reachable for people. Donate items and get into the game for free. If the attendance numbers are low for Saturday can you really blame the administration/promotions? From the looks of it, they are promoting the heck out of this game. It's up to the Terre Haute community to do their part and show up.

Sadly, I do not believe we will get close. As I often say, I hope I am wrong. 9K tops but closer to 8500 more likely. That is only if the weather stays where it predicted on Accu-Weather to be 61 and sunny.

To quote my kids, " don't be a Betty buzz kill"....
I'm going to go with 10,094!
And I'm doing my part, bringing 20+ people to watch our warriors kick some serious butt!
These seniors deserve it!!!!

It would be great to hit 10K. I'm afraid that, if we do hit 10K, a large portion of the crowd will be wearing red. That will be OK if they contribute to the cause.
