It's been over a decade since I was a student at State. Does Midnight Madness still happen? If not, I wish it did.

Enthusiasm is so high for the upcoming season, I'd love to hear that it's scheduled.

Or has it already passed?

well I think we should bring back midnite madness I dont see why we cant? There's alot of enthusiasm for the team this year around campus especially now since kelly is eligable. SO does anyone know how we can get this going and tell the basketball office to do this?

I'm doubting this will happen. An open practice, maybe, but not a midnight madness type thing. Time is limited and these guys will have a lot to learn in a very short period of time (especially the newbies). This is not a time to be showing off dunking prowess or street-ball type hoops that you may see at these types of events. These guys need to learn some pretty intricate offensive sets...various defenses and the purpose of said defense (get a steal...run off some shot clock which makes the other team have to get into their offense later than they'd want...etc). Before they can do all that they have to work on basics...defensive drills...shooting drills for specific positions...ballhandling...lots of fundamentals as well.

So I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you on seeing a midnight madness while Coach McKenna is at the helm.

Are you serious? You mean they coulnd't take the first day when practice officially starts to have a little fun before the season starts? I personally would like to see there be a midnight madness but I don't think there would be a good enough turnout. Yes, the people on here are pumped up for the upcoming season but what if there is only like 500 people at this thing? Kind of get the team down if they only see that many people there.

If the same number of students showed up for midnite madness that does for most games, there would not be 500 there......................and you can rest assured that the rest of us over 30+, 40+, 50+ or 60+ would not be there.

Dead serious...

Very good point.

Men's team to participate in Big Blue Block Party

It's not 'Midnight Madness,' maybe 'Twilight Highlights' is a better name but it's essentially the same.

http://www.tribstar.com/ISU/local_story_275002457.html

The Block Party will take place in the Clabber Girl parking lot from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The party will include free food and drinks, and the usual area for games for kids.

Following the party, the women’s basketball team will have a 3-point shooting contest in Hulman Center that will be followed by a 20-minute scrimmage.

The men’s team will conduct an open practice after the women’s team leaves the floor, Wiedie said.

Good for the kiddies in the Haute; also good to see Wiedie and K-Mac working together

Little Eddi you took it way to serious talking about defensive sets and such. Let the kids have fun.

I just know from what I hear that the offensive and defensive sets that ISU runs aren't something you pick up quickly...even a half hour for a dunk contest would be a wasted opportunity to have implemented something that the "kids" will need to learn before the season starts. In less than a month after the season starts they'll have to be ready for LSU...I'm pretty sure we know that the guys can dunk which is the kind of stuff you see at Midnight Madness. I'd rather they be working on team preparation/gelling than on what kind of dipsy doo dunkaroo they can do in front of no defenders.

I agree with Eddie here - we won 11 games last year, we have all of the excitement we need for next season. It's time to get to work - not to mention we don't have but 3 players who can actually do something besides a 2 handed dunk. I mean when is the last time we saw a BIG dunk in a game - Josh Carwford is the best dunker on this team and that aint saying much. Now I would imagine that Koang can get up and do something neato, but come on!

90 minutes...

Sorry but I'm not going to be 'upset' because K-Mac has the MBB doing some PR work on the Bash; it's one afternoon/evening.

We're returing a fairly expereienced team and this one event WILL NOT stunt the season long development of the team.

Anyone know if/most of the FROSH will redshirt? Odum... others?

Aren't there NCAA imposed limits on weekly practice time? If there are, and this would count against those, I am all for NOT having a midnight madness. After the last several years, we need all the preparation we can get! Let the kids have their fun when they are beating up on our opponents...

The only sensational dunker in Indiana State history that I can remember is Steve Hart, and I don't remember him doing that much of it in college. In high school he was incredible. The show he put on at the THS pep rally his senior year was amazing.

I think Isiah is the best dunker on the team....unfortunately we didn't see him do much last year but his freshman year he had some pretty cool dunks and oops...Josh Crawford is just 6'11 but has the athleticism of a handball...

Harry Morgan on those 1st two Bird teams wasn't too shady...
