Becoming one of the biggest stories in recent MLB history with two recent WS winning managers fired. Do you agree with the firings? Should they get a lifetime ban? Is Beltran next? Is this worse than Pete betting on baseball? Would love to hear everyone's opinions.

I can't speak to how this compares or relates to Pete Rose - I know the back story but not educated enough to comment.

I'm surprised if they were going to the lengths they were going to steal signs that they wouldn't be sophisticated enough to implant some sort of a sound or vibration device inside the helmet to let them know what pitch was coming. Billion $$ teams and industry and we're really banging on trashcans and dugout ceilings? That is the best you can do...

But I do think it provided those teams with a competitive advantage and I think they got the proper level of punishment. I'm not sure I would go so far as to take away the WS or an MVP - but for a coach to get fired, loss of draft picks and hefty fine - that along with the public perception of your franchise. Ya - not a good look for those teams I think they got what they deserved.

I think I read that they might go to a watch system for pitchers and catchers where the catcher can literally click the # of the pitch he wants thrown and it will show up on the watch so the pitcher knows what to throw... I don't know if that will ever become a reality or not but seems like a real possibility.

I think it is a whole lot of nothing. I assumed everyone probably did it at the professional level.

Sure; most/all players, coaches, managers try to steal signs -- the 19th century method. They DON'T put a camera in the outfield, link it to a monitor just off the dugout and relay the pitch to the batter.

Good on MLB for cracking down on this; makes the 2019 Washington Nationals Series title even more impressive

And Pete knew the rules; they're posted in EVERY MiLB and MLB locker room.

There's NO relation to Pete Rose - none.

The Astros took it to another level after MLB continually warned clubs about using tech to break the rules. IMO, you don't vacate their title, but I don't think the penalties were stiff enough.

They have to be so severe that another team doesn't dare do it. Just firing underlings and a small $5m fine ain't it, chief. I know the MLB fines are capped but I think they need to raise that cap. They pulled in like $30m from the postseason revenue pool alone. I think having to return that pool as well as being banned from postseason play for 3-5 years would be such a big deterrent that nobody would try to use tech and would go back to smoke signals, tossing gear into the air, etc.

If all I'm getting is a $5m fine, I'm putting in a comprehensive system tomorrow. Multi-angle camera systems, inconspicuous helmet or earpieces, the whole 9 yards. The payoff of winning can be hundred of millions of dollars for the franchise both in real money and franchise valuation and the same big checks for coaches and players.

The rule was put in place to keep players from throwing games for money. Pete did not do that. He just had confidence that his team could beat the opponent. I don’t have a problem with sign stealing. If you don’t want to be a victim make better signs.

Pete's arrogance said he didn't have to follow the rule; that the rules didn't apply to him. joe willie namath, alex "mongo" karras and paula hornung all had issues with gambling that the NFL enforced. I don't recall ANY of them pissing, moaning, crying and bitching about it the way rose did.

All of baseball is "ok" with stealing signs... it's the METHOD of how houston, boston stole them...
