Did I just see that Max Tuttle, who I think is an ISU recruit, just win "Mr. Track and Field"? I would say that is significant good news for our emerging Track and Field program. I am not a huge track and field follower but I have become more in the past few years as one of my best friends is a H.S. coach in Indy. Looks like things are REALLY looking up in TH!

Thanks for posting - that is correct Max was named Mr. Track & Field, a pretty good get here for the track program.

Just to kind of bring you up to speed a little bit (no pun intended) the Track and Cross Country programs have always been "up". Not to take anything away from your post because it was a good post - but things have always been good for these 2 programs at Indiana State, at least in the last 10 to 15 years things have been good.

They are the 2 most successful programs at Indiana State right now, hands down. They are producing national qualifiers and national champions on a yearly basis right now and that is not any easy feat by any means.

Just wanted to add that since you said you were not a big track and field follower.

I follow T & F closer than I lead on. I am well aware that both men and women have been ranked in recent years and of course, I have been following the Kylie story since the beginning. Anything doing well at ISU I am well aware of. I am also aware that my track coach friend tells me that our program is strong and getting better all the time. Judging the recruits that are coming next year, it is only going to get better. I'll bop in here more often because it is something I am gaining interest in every day. I watched much of the NCAA's in Eugune too so now I am getting even more excited because that was exciting as hell~

Very cool - glad to hear it! It's a good sport - my dad played high school football and never was a runner of any kind growing up. Both me and my sister got into Track & Field in middle school in middle school and both went on to run @ State.

Well my dad big sports fan - loves watching Track & Field more so than any other sport he says. He enjoys it because it's you vs. the other athletes and the clock and no one can get in the way of what you are doing. He's talking about officials and their ability to determine outcomes in other sports, in track you control your own fate and no 1 race is the same. You battle the elements, yourself and the other competitors - it really does take a lot of different things to be good at track. Especially the level of athletes you were watching out in Eugene, those guys and gals got the total package.

While I have your attention here, Morgan, aren't there plans on the drawing board to update the existing facilities? I know there is mention of new facilities in the master plan but I am correct that our once "world-class" track has fallen on hard times?

Maybe Tom James can correct me, but I have never known us to have a "world class" track, we have a world-class cross country course as many of you may know. Rose Hulman has a world class track - but Indiana State since I have been old enough to know better has had a sub par track.

I would expect them to run 1 more season on the current track that sits in between 3rd and 4th streets. My guess is within the next year they will start construction on the new outdoor track and it will be the first athletic facility at Indiana State to be built west of 3rd street and on the river. I am sure it will be a pretty impressive site as you are driving east across the river in to Terre Haute to see the grandstand lights.

My guess is it won't be big grandstand type seating - however more of a bowl type seating like you see at IUPUI or Drake, with less seating capacity than both of those places. Because both of those stadiums have pretty big front strait away grandstands.

Usually when John McNichols is involved things get done the right way, so I have the upmost confidence that they will build a stadium that Indiana State can use for generations to come. With the new surface that IU Bloomington put down, I find it hard to believe that they could steal a NCAA D1 National Championship bid from them if they wanted, but ya never know!

I haven't seen or heard much about the specs - but I do know their are drawing on the table.

Thanks Morgan. I had thought that there were plans to take the facility across 41 but I haven't heard much about it lately. I had also heard that our track was sub par at best but obviously, it isn't affecting their performance. I can tell you that at one point, maybe in the early 70's, it was considered one of the fastest in the world and one of the most innovative surfaces of its time, whatever that name was. (like tartan etc). Jim Ryan set a world record on that track that lasted for decades, I do know that. Thanks for the info, Morgan, I appreciated it~

Yeah I had heard that before - pretty cool little history...

Yeah this thing is going to happen sooner rather than later and I am confident it will be built west of 3rd street. They will just get rid of that old track that is well past it's prime. It was actually re-surfaced about 2 years ago because it had become unsafe to train on and it was our turn to host the MVC Conference meet and we didn't want to have to pass on that opportunity.

I trained on that track for 4 years and it was like running on concrete - I never was hurt by that track or our indoor track or at least any injuries that I am aware of. Maybe I could have been better given proper facilities to train on, who knows at this point. lol

Compared to the track we had back in the mid-80s, the current track is world class! :D

By the way, I loved that picture of you and the falling Notre Dame runner you posted the other day. I will share that with my close friend who is a HS track coach in Indy because in the 70's, he was the captain of the Notre Dame track team. I am sure he'll say you FOULDED! :)

ahah thanks - it made for a great video (my mom was filming). If they would have tried to DQ me I would have asked them to review the tape... lol Like the sport of Track & Field actually does that type of thing... Honestly they don't need replay in track and field (except for the finish line of course) because they pretty much let you get away with beating and banging, as long as you don't step of the course you can get away with about anything.

I don't know how I didn't fall in that picture - it was bang bang - split second to react and I was able to get around the outside of him... Their were like 3 ND guys in that race - I had to take one of them out. I think he might have been one of the top 2 seed times also from the trials... Funny! Glad you enjoyed.
