I've been watching box scores and I project Walker as a redshirt next year unless he is good enough to start. Right now I don't see him improving us over BL or RJ or IM. Of course, he is just starting his soph year and will probably improve. But an additional year might be needed and beneficial.

I'll respectfully disagree. The two games where his numbers aren't quite there are games where his team won by 57 and 80something...the two close games he scores 15 and grabs 2 boards in a win and scores 12 and grabs 9 boards in a loss. I heard good things about him while in town...the guy has a constant motor and he excels at defense and rebounding. I invision an 8 pts and 8 rebs type player...love that he has a good motor for a guy his size.

Looking forward in seeing how Kitchell and McWhorter do during their senior years as well...

We're going to need him on a team where we don't have a lot of big bodies. The freshmen will be more likely to redshirt.

That's what worries me. 2 rebounds in JC competition is not any better than some of the guys we have. And I noticed one game he had 5 TO's. I'm not convinced that he will immediately outplay BL, IM, or RJ. We'll see and I hope he helps us bigtime immediately. I'm just don't want to expect more than he can deliver.

I don't know what competition he's playing. Some of these teams may not be better than a good IN HS team.

Our need has nothing to do with whether he redshirts or not. Only his level of play matters. We will have BL, IM and RJ. If any of them improve they could be at least his equal. We only need 3 bigs.

As for his competition, I think I read somewhere that his team just won the National JC Championship last season, so they must be playing decent competition, right???

This kid is an athletic BEAST, and I think will make an impact immediately...

If he can be a force on the boards, which by the sounds of it, he is, I would expect he could get a lot of minutes next year.

Not to be a bad guy or anything like that because I don't think you should judge a kid based on just a few games. I mean it's not un common for even the best rebounder's to only get 2 rebounds in a game on occasion. It's the 15 rbs efforts that make them special players and seeing as how he does not take a play off, I am sure he has the ability to do that.

But ITF, you think everyone is a beast! lol I applaud you for being so positive all the time, but dang!

I hope you are right. I just concerned when I see the box scores. I don't think his stats are as good as RJ's (as a soph) would be.
I'm hoping that our 3 returning bigs can improve and give us a lift. BL and IM might even look different by the end of the year. It's still early. Some of the games on tv by the "big" schools have been brick city and sloppy.

Don't be so concerned by what you see in the box score...it doesn't tell everything about how a player plays. That's all I'm saying...

I think you get my point. I haven't seen anything in box scores to indicate a beast. I expect he's averaging about 8 pts, 3-4 rebs, less than 1 block, and 2 TO's.

And for you smartarses that think I'm a little off my rocker (OK, maybe I am, but really...), by athletic BEAST, I simply meant that anyone recruited out of HS for football by the likes of Oklahoma, Texas Tech, etc., has some serious athleticism...

Yes, I know what you're saying. But if you look at the HS or juco box scores of players on the teams that are beating us, they are better than our players' box scores.

In general of course.

So overall, I can tell a lot by a box score.

ahaha ITF - I don't hate you and you are not off your rocker! Keep supporting the trees man! lol I am just saying that I wish that I could be as positive as you are! That's all!

I'd rather see him at the top of a Sycamore hoop fast break "wedge" next year against LSU!

Let's also not forget that Walker's athletic focus has been traditionally divided w/ football. With some TLC/good coaching and the opportunity for true FOCUS, his game is gonna grow by leaps & bounds.

That's my point. an extra year could make a lot of difference. We'll only have him 2 yrs. If he's not going to help us a lot his first year, we'd only get one good year out of him.
