I keep reading snippets about the national media hating the Bears QB -- anyone know? Kinda surprising that some compare him to / refer to him as the Jeff George of the 2000s...

Thanks

i have not seen any comparison of him to jeff george. maybe he has a cannon like him, but cutler is not the headcase/egomaniac george was.

Because he doesn't kiss their ass like a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady does. He isn't accomodating and he's insanely private. The comparisons to George end with the fact they both had cannons for arms. George had a starting record of 46-78 and thus far Cutler is around .500, 35-33, I think.

That said Cutler has piloted the Bears into the NFC title game despite having a patchwork OL, average WRs and no running game. There are other reasons why and you can find plenty of "I hate Jay" threads that make the comparison on Bronco forums.

Thanks -- Sounds like some have the same attitude towards Cutler that many baseball writers had towards Roger Maris.

I don't know the kid; haven't seen anything that jibes with what they say (ala George screaming at June Jones) or Charles Barkley spitting on people, throwing them through windows, etc

I don't think he's the egomaniac that Barry Bonds is...

Should be a good game on Sunday

I think Cutler is getting quite a bit of praise at the moment, but any dislike stems from his demand for a trade, which struck some people the wrong way, that and his shortcomings in Denver. I think people will give him more credit if they win this weekend and he has an impact on the game. Will he throw three touchdowns or three interceptions? You never know with Cutler.

i think people are now looking at Cutler differently because all the the decisions made by josh mcdaniels. i mean who runs off Cutler, Marshall, and trades Peyton Hills for nothing basically. not to mention he drafted Tebow with a 1st round pick. dont get me wrong Tebow has performed quite well this season, but 1st round pick was questionable.

I HATE JAY CUTLER. Of course, that's only because he plays for the Bears, and I'm a Packers fan...

Other than that, I think he's great!!! Seriously, he's from "The Fatherland" where much of my family hails from, so I really enjoy seeing him succeed. Except for the next game...

Daniel....among the national NFL media.....

the general feeling is that Cutler is part Jeff George, part Ryan Leaf and part Philip Rivers.....

He's compared to George because of his arm strength and because of the belief, prior to this season, that he didnt/wouldn't work hard enough to watch tape or film to prepare for each game.....George was notorious for not watching game tape or preparing....he wouldn't call many/any audibles....

he thought that his arm was good enough to get him by...also, George's personality traits were questionable....he was often surly with coaches, teammates and the media....which also drew the comparisons to Leaf....Cutler was a real jerk at the NFL combine when he was coming out of college....

and he draws comparisons to Rivers for a perceived cocky and arrogant attitude.....

credit Mike Martz with sitting him down and getting a good working relationship with Cutler....

Ahhh I have known him for a while, not a true personal relationship, thru some family...He has never came off that way ya know what I mean? Which is why when I hear them it kinda upsets me because I get the feeling the guy is getting characterized in a fashion he really isn't...other than the fact that every time I have seen him he is wearing loafers and a southern boy haircut I like the guy lol...

Here's what I know about Jay Cutler:

Phenomenal athlete; All-State in three sports in High School.
Great grades (3.75+, ~1200 SAT, National Honor Society)

Told by VIRTUALLY every college coach, that he couldn't be a QB in college (that's why he went to Vandy); Bobby Johnson GAVE him the opportunity to prove himself. He CHOSE to redshirt; started 4 seasons, ranked in the top 10 in QB stats every season; led the SEC in most as SR. Voted SEC Off MVP.
Questioned by many in the NFL on 'making it in the NFL' -- goes in the 1st round; posts some pretty good numbers in Denver, is traded to team with fewer weapons and wins Division in truly the first year in current offense.

His talent has been questioned MAINLY by the media and people wonder why he's not friendly to the press??

He's another Roger Maris NOT George, Leaf or Rivers

big ben has also had more legal issues than manning too...

what's the betting rate on big ben getting accused -- once again -- by some college coed of assault (or worse) in the offseason? he's had at least two issues in recent years. is he gonna go for three?

Not sure what that has to do with anything? I hate to break it to anyone, but many NFLers have skeletons in their closet. Manning has been accused of infidelity as well. Glass houses.
