Does this name sound familiar?

Iowa State beat West Virginia in the Big 12 championship game only to see the Mountaineers come in as a No. 4 seed to the Cyclones' No. 5.

The thing is you can't make everyone happy. there is ALWAYS going to be 3-4 teams that think they SHOULD be in (and sometimes they are right). I think that Illinois State is truly the only team that got "snubbed" after having a great season. Vanderbilt has no business playing for a national championship after losing 15 games! there are ALWAYS going to 6-8 teams where the seeding doesn't make much sense (Wichita definitely got shit on this year (and in years previous)). It's just the nature of the beast.

The fact is that right now the MVC is one of the most difficult conferences to get a bid in because the top team is going to be one of the best teams in the country (so they are extremely tough to beat), but the conference is only going to get that 1 bid (unless someone gets lucky). Where as these other mid-major conferences every team has a shot to win their tournament because there is no dominant team. If you notice there were a lot of 4-7 seeds playing for a conference championship this past weekend. When was the last time you saw that in the MVC? has a Thursday team even made it to Saturday? And all you have to do in these P5 conferences if finish above .500 to make the dance, which I find insulting quite frankly. So unless you name is Wichita or you are having an incredible season, good luck making the tourney in the MVC. We just need to step our game up.

The issues lie with the selection committee and the criteria they use for choosing and seeding teams. They're still using antiquated metrics like RPI, strength of schedule, wins above the top-25, etc. Those are okay ways to look at it, but it clearly favors the P5 conferences because of the opportunities they get to pad those stat metrics throughout their regular conference season.

There are much better advanced metrics that do a better of job of leveling the playing field for more independent and subjective data points and metrics. Until the committee gets out of the dark ages, this trend will continue. I liken what they're doing right now to evaluating baseball players by batting average, RBI's, wins for a pitcher, etc. There's just so much better information available now that they're clearly not using.

WSU wins! Sad those two teams had to play each other in the first game, the NCAA TOTALLY screwed both teams, pathetic

Was one of the dullest first two days of the tournament in recent memory. Only a few good games and few upsets. If this is what the tournament is gonna be like in the future, with fewer mid major teams and mostly P5 teams against each other and low majors, it's gonna lose it's luster, IMO. To be fair though, there weren't a lot of great mid major teams this year. Also, I think some of the P5 conferences like the Big ten were very mediocre.

Yup id say the first two days of the tournament were bad from a casual fan persepctive. There were only a few intriqueing games and a few that were fun to watch. And I dont know if it is like this every year, but has anybody noticed it takes about 20 real time minutes to play out the last 2 minutes in these games. Half the time im thinking "holy shit, get this game over with already."

Like meistro said, if this becomes the norm. I can see the tournament lose some of its luster.

He ate leather WHEN IT COUNTED on the final two (2) shots...

Poor player/ball movement on those final 2 possessions by the Shox. Marshall might've shot himself in the foot for the IU job on those 2 plays. Never looks good on a resume to lose to UK...if you're a Hoosier fan.:bash:
