You probably drove this point home more frequently and with more confidence than anyone…

I always said it didn’t seem sustainable. I’m like when guys like Tyreke (a good player mind you) are getting paid pretty good NIL chucks - it’s not sustainable.

I feel like NIL deals for the top 5% of that talent pool is one thing. But when you start reaching down and giving deals like the one’s we discussed with Avila - I’m just like is this for real?!

NIL is great if you're a high school graduate playing a sport your dad or uncles are famous for playing, are one of the top college QBs, or are a pretty blonde gymnast. The rest aren't going to give you move of an ROI.

You're forgetting Cooper Manning... and Ella Myers at univ. texas is gaining a lot of traction to swim past the lsu gymnast.

Agree on your assessment

NIL will destroy programs and sports

Perhaps it will be like a wildfire. Burn like crazy until the fuel is consumed and then smolder on for a while. The landscape remains and new growth occurs. For sports, that may mean those who give directly to the program to strengthen it internally will win out in the long run in most places; however, new wildfires will continue to occur.

Are speaking of the "controlled burns" vs. the naturally-occurring wildfires in unraked forests?

I don't see your scenario coming to fruition -- there have been several 'olympic (non-revenue) sports' at P5 schools that have been ID'd for shuttering, the alumni have risen up to self-fund and the AD, Univ still refused to take their $$ for that program. I'll have to data mine for those instances but it has happened.

NIL will not survive in it's current construct.

Agreed, NIL and the transfer portal will be the end of college athletics as we once knew it.

Bad analogy for me right now- Wildfire. As i am setting here with burning eyes from this damn haze from the Canadian wildfires over most of Indiana today. :ROFLMAO:

Yeah it was really bad in northern Illinois all day yesterday and even this morning. I've never seen anything like it. Once I got about halfway across Iowa today things started to clear up. Now I'm getting close to the border with South Dakota and you can see for miles and miles. If you look really closely in the horizon you can just barely see a haze, but if you're not paying close attention you won't even notice it here.

Drove to Frederick Maryland and back in 2 days - 17 hours straight coming back. The air quality was so bad at times I coughed for hours. Finally some relief when we hit the storms in Southern Indiana and Kentucky, but now worse at home in western Illinois.
