SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame baseball coach Dave Schrage has been fired after the Irish posted their first losing record since 1987.
The school announced the decision today as the Irish finished the season 22-32, failing to qualify for the eight-team Big East tournament for the first time since Notre Dame joined the conference in 1996.
In four seasons under Schrage, the Irish posted a 119-104-1 record. They failed to advance to the NCAA tournament under Schrage and never won more than 36 games.
Schrage’s predecessor, Paul Mainieri, had 11 40-win seasons and nine NCAA tournament appearances in 12 years, including advancing to the 2002 College World Series.
Before Notre Dame, Schrage coached for four seasons at Evansville and three years at Northern Iowa. He is 595-657-1 in 23 college seasons.
