The Sycamore Level
How can Ron Prettyman honestly look the Sycamore faithful in the face and tell them he is doing what is best for the baseball program at ISU? Does Prettyman have any scruples whatsoever? Why would he drag Mitch Hannahs thru the ringer for a second time and not hire the obvious candidate for the job? I think Prettyman needs to be called out on this one......

oh my, grabs beer, sits back, can't wait to see how this unfolds 4....3....2...1...

I know that Ron Prettyman's phone and e-mail were flooded with contacts supporting Mitch for the position. Isn't it an AD's job to hear the people out? And it's not like these people were recommending a Little League coach for the job. :krazy: Absolutely puzzling how Ron Prettyman can boot this one again. He did the right thing and hired Trent Miles as the football coach. Look at all of the support the football program has gained since Coach Miles took over. I am not a brain surgeon, but ISU could have had the same support had Prettyman made the right decision on this one. Questions need to be asked.

Can you shoot me a PM where you found out about this? I just want to make sure this is legit before we have folks storming the athletic director's offices with fire and pitchforks.

Predictable

First of all, I don't doubt that this is true, but I don't see any confirmation or any link at all that its happened.

Secondly, just as predicted on the other thread, if Hannahs wasn't hired, his buddies were going to throw a fit. Really disappointing, but not surprising.

I understand he's a friend to many of you, and personally I would've hired Hannahs over Heller too, but why do questions need to asked of Prettyman because he hired someone other than your guy? He said all along he was going to hire the right man for the job and apparently he felt Heller was that man.

Fine with me. Prettyman's track record hasn't been bad so far, including hiring the apparently much-disliked Lindsay Meggs. Sorry, but I enjoyed competing for a conference title for once.

No, it isn't RP's job to hear people out, it's his job to hire the right person for the job. He's done a good job hiring quality coaches up to this point, so I don't see why he shouldn't get the benefit of the doubt now. No one has more at stake here than Ron, and he hasn't hidden behind search committees. Let the man do his job. If the new coach isn't winning in three years, then we can say"...questions need to be asked.". Ron has done nothing but improve our athletic program by leaps and bounds since he got here, and he doesn't deserve the vitriol whether you agree with him or not.

I'm guessing this is a hoax. This "new member" joined the board about 5 days ago. Do not think he/she is an "insider"?

Actually it is true. I have confirmed this from a couple of media members. Apparently Mitch is telling his friends he didn't get the job.

Frankly, like many of you, I'm going thru an adaptive state of "depression" upon hearing this...ya, I know about the "other" resumes, but Mitch WAS one of us.

Honestly, I think this is a great hire for ISU. Heller had built a very solid program at UNI, but almost zero support. I have no doubt that if he can win games at UNI with no support, then he can be very successful at ISU with RP and others on board. I think that this is a great fit and that Coach Heller will end up being a great hire for the university!

I lose all respect for RP. I know he does not care but he made a bad choice. Coach Hannahs was the right person for the job. Prettyman just picks against the norm and the community. This really sucks.

Even though I am a "Junior" member, I still have solid contacts. If Heller was the best fit for the program, then it would be a good hire. Heller wasn't the best fit for the program, Hannahs was. What is Heller going to do, recruit the best players from Iowa to come to ISU? Who could have taken the job and immediately made an impact on recruting the best baseball players from Indiana and Illinois? Sycamore Nation needs to know that when Heller came for a campus visit last week, Prettyman put him in contact with a realtor. Sycamore Nation needs to know that ISU paid for two candidates to fly into Indianapolis last night, but couldn't reimburse Mitch for driving from Robinson or even pay the $9.00 for parking. If Prettyman knew he was going to hire Heller, why did he put the other applicants through the process?

$upport is more than just "RP & others." We just BLEW a wonderful opportunity to UNIFY the Sycamore Family. Winning heals all wounds? Don't believe it...:krazy:

If there's TRUTH to the comparative $$$ treatment of Mitch in the interview process, that's a "green weany" move on RP's part and lacks CLASS.

I hope the money thing is not true. If it is someone needs to call out Ron Prettyman. He has no class if true. Bad day if your a sycamore fan. Maybe the president of the university needs to sit down and have a little talk with Ron.

Northern Iowa had one good year. ONE!. I sure hope Delmonico wasn't considered for the job because that is a smack in the face to him. Hannahs. I feel bad for you because I know alot about Juco baeball in the GRAC conference and you have done a hell of a job at LT. This is by far going to be ugly. Mr. Prettyman made a very big mistake. I hope he proves me wrong but I just dont see it.

They are sending Coach Hannahs a check in the mail to reimburse him. I know that for a fact. Now having the other coach call a realtor I hope that is not true.

I don't know anything about the baseball coach search, but in the corporate world, it's pretty normal to have candidates for jobs meet with realtors when they interview. It allows them to get a feel for the market in your town, which can be a factor in someone accepting or declining your job offer. People from close by generally do not get set up with a realtor. That's just the way it is...

Perhaps everyone should chill and let Heller prove he's a dolt before writing Sycamore baseball's obituary??? Just a thought...
