Looking back on EIU last year, they were pretty bad. They finished 9-20 (4-14) and were almost last in the country at scoring with 60.3 ppg. They were also 261st in the country in shooting at 42.1% and it doesn't look like they added a bunch of help. Leading scorer returns but 2nd leading scores does not -- denied medical hardship waiver.

Wins last year came against IU-South Bend, Bradley, Tennessee State, Western Illinois, Jacksonville State, Anderson, Morehead State, Toledo and Murray State. They went 1-9 in their last 10 to close out the season. They're picked to finish 9th in the OVC by Athlon.

Sporting News/Street & Smith have them rated #9 in Ohio Valley Conference. They rate one of their guards, Darius Smith, as the "Top Newcomer". Mr. Smith is listed at 6'2 and having led the College of Southern Idaho to the national juco title last season. The magazine indicates they have 2 starters returning and 7 newcomers.

One of their leading scorer's (Tyler Laser) was denied a 5th year of eligibility after suffering a back injury.

No disrespect intended to Eastern Illinois, but this should be a double-digit win for the Sycamores. If we're supposed to be a NCAA tournament team again this year, these are the kind of games we should win easily.

Darius Smith and Austin Akers

Darius Smith is not listed on EIU's pre-season roster and did not play the the exhibition game the other night. Smith played his freshman year at UConn and was one of the top high school players in the country at Chicago Marshall. Does anyone know his status?

Note that Austin Akers of Northview is one of the Panthers' top juco recruits. He played for two years at Olney Central.

I believe you're correct. Only excuse for a men's 5pm tip.

Not to mention they are doing the same for the Ball State game on Friday the 18th! It's going to take some work to get there before tipoff!!! Inexcusable if you ask me - especially for a rivalry game, and home football weekend.

I believe this game if followed by the Preseason NIT women's game with Detroit. Two games for the price of one I would think.

No, not 2 for 1. The women's game is the first game of the WNIT, not a regular season game. They announced at the exhibition game vs. Truman State that Hulman Center would be cleared between games for 30 minutes or so, maybe an hour ? Gives an opportunity to go eat and/or drink somewhere for a bit between games. Could be a good thing for The Bally and The Terminal?

Interesting that with only nine wins last year one was vs. Bradley and one vs. Morehead State ? Every dog has his day.......................

Not surprised on Bradley...they were pretty darn bad last year. I remember watching that moorehwad state game. Though. Moorehead was disinterested...

Lots of NEW fun facts to read, including:

New King Of The Four-Point Play
Indiana State redshirt freshman RJ Mahurin learned a few trick from Aaron Carter, a graduated player who had eight career four-point plays. Mahurin posted two 4-point plays during his freshman season, one each in ISU's games against Drake and Bradley. His two 4-point plays have each come in the first half of the two contests in which he has been fouled while stepping out for a 3-pointer, has been fouled and has converted the ensuing free throw. Mahurin was fouled on a 3-point attempt against Illinois State, and made all three of his free throws.

And let's remember that as of right now, the career leader in NCAA history for most 4-point plays is Carter.

Yeah baby, it is now officially 11/11/11 (Eastern Standard Time anyway). Been looking forward to the first game of this season ever since the clock hit 00:00 of the Syracuse game.

Good Luck Sycamores, will be watching on SycamoreVision, gonna be so fun to watch this team all season. My only prediction on the season is that we increase last year's 20-win total.

WARNING TO FANS ATTENDING THE 5:00 TIPOFF GAME TODAY -- ISU security is ticketing anyone who parks in an ISU lot before 5 p.m. without an ISU parking permit hanging from their rear view mirror. I got one while buying my season tickets a few weeks ago. They somehow still think I'm going to pay it, even though I'm not a student and they have no way to make me.

Koby Kraemer's grandmother got a ticket at Bob Warn Field while watching him play in a fall baseball scrimmage because she didn't have a parking permit.

Park on the street or a non-ISU lot.

And ISU wonders why many people won't support them, when they offer no separate parking lot for the ticket office and expect people to buy parking passes for one trip a year.

a statistical comparison/preview is available from StatSheet at this link:

I love the fact that they calculate some of the "other" statistics, like eFG%, OR%, etc. They even give the player percentages within the team total.

And before jump all over me, I know that there is MORE TO THE GAME THAN JUST STATISTICS. I just think it provides an additional, interesting way to look at the game.

That would be a total public relations nightmare if they ticket people tonight. How many people would not EVER come to another game again? They MUST instruct the campus cops to "look the other way" for a night.

You are absolutely correct.

When I went to a game I usually parked in the Morris Plan parking lot across the street on Wabash Ave. If you get there early enough, you can get a parking spot along Cherry street right in front of HC, but you have to get there awfully early.

:sycamores:

I am guessing the biggest reason to clear is so that ISU Women's BB season ticket holders do not have to make people move to get to their seats .... I do not think anyone has to leave the building ... I plan on having an adult beverage in the Varsity Club room
