We're just several weeks out from hoops season and we kick off the regular season in the Loyola Classic against Texas-Pan American. UTPA was 6-27 on the season last year.

Looks like it will be a good mathup for us to start the season out the right ways! Already getting excited for the college hoops season!

Yeah, I would be greatly disappointed if we dropped one to these guys. I like this as our first game in this and the way we're scheduled, each game should get progressively harder. This team is loaded with guards and has smaller post players. Their only listed center is a freshman prep school transfer -- from Indianapolis of all places.

If you look at their schedule, they don't have any exhibition games. We are their season opener in all regards.

wasn't UTPA the tx school that was in a TON of hot water with the NCAA?
thinking delray brooks was behind/involved?

TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN - The good news for UTPA fans is that four of last year's top-five scorers return for the 2010-11 season -- the bad news of course being, none of them averaged in double figures so a potential lack of scoring punch could once again plague the Broncs, who averaged just 61.2 ppg and shot 38.9 percent from the field last year. Jared Maree (9.9 ppg) is back to hopefully raise his overall level of play, as are Nick Weiermiller (8.4 ppg, 3.5 apg) and Aaron Urbanus (8.0 ppg), and the two combined to drop 106 of the team's 211 three-pointers last season. In addition to their scoring woes, one of the Broncs' other deficiencies was rebounding, as they lost the battle on the boards by an average of 8.2 rpg. It didn't help that foes shot better than 48 percent from the floor against UTPA, an area coach Ryan Marks hopes decreases dramatically here in his second season at the helm.

I think this may be the only cupcake at the Chicago tourney...quite possibly the only gimme on the Syc's non-con schedule.

And with the Sycs being with a new coach and limited playing together type of experience on the part of some players we are counting on, these kind of games worry me. I know, Lansing isn't really new, and we have experienced players returning. Still can't take them lightly. It would be good to have a killer instinct and exercise it.

There are no easy games...respect everyone...be ready for a battle. It's finally time for hoops!

Auburn lost to a DII I'd never heard of before...and I used to follow Div II closely when Kev was coach at UNO.

It wasn't Northern Kentucky...it was Kentucky Wesleyan that UE barely escaped...ALSO why hasn't there been a bigger deal made of Bradley losing to Quincy over at MVCFAns??????? I think a little favoritism is being showed...

It's because they were w/out their two best players...Taylor Brown and Maniscalco...doesn't completely justify it but that's a big blow for Bradley to be w/out those two. To me it says something about their bench (read: lack there of).

Yeah they were missing 2 players, but we played half our schedule with only 8 players and finished above .500.

Maniscalco is preseason All Valley...Brown and Warren are honorable mentions (media day voting).

Like I said...I think it has to do w/ their lack of bench more than anything. Landrus, ISU had a decent bench therefore we were able to overcome.
