[November 12, 2022] Indiana State (1-0) vs Ball State (1-0)

WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

We’ve struggled in the past with Ball State - I really expect this to be more of a dog fight than people are anticipating. We shall see. But Ball State ain’t going to come in here and lay down. I think it will be tight throughout and quite frankly I’m okay with that - a test would be good it’s going to come sooner or later.

It will be interesting to see what the pace looks like against similar talent - especially if the shots don't fall early. Hopefully the pace will favor the Trees and the Cards fade about half way through the second half (if not sooner).

When making a list of teams I enjoy seeing the Sycamores beat, Ball St would be near the top...have no concrete reasoning for why other than the BSU students I interacted with in my college days always rubbed me the wrong way for some reason. GO TREES!!!

Testicle Tech is still a rivalry for all of the old timers, but it's personally one I don't really care too much about. Unfortunately it's a dying rivalry game, mainly due to the split of Division 1 football which eventually led to us not playing them very often for the Victory Bell. Playing them once a year in just one major sport doesn't really draw any bad blood between our programs.

Personally I take the most joy in us beating the Jailbirds, and would probably consider them our biggest rival in today's age, even if the feeling isn't necessarily mutual. We get to hate them in football, and twice a year (sometimes 3X) in basketball.

I assume the “Jailbirds” are from Illinois State…… haven’t heard that nickname before.

I started calling them that when Malik Yarborough was on the basketball team. He was arrested at least three times during his playing career at IL State. One of his teammates also got arrested and they had a running back around the same time that was arrested for drug dealing. I've been calling them the Jailbirds ever since.

Only fan base I've had unpleasant interactions with in St Louis.

Coming up from the Louisville area to the game today. Anyone know what time the ticket office opens and is it difficult to get tics in the lower bowl?

I think ticket office opens an hour before game time (1:00 PM --- Game at 2:00)
Unfortunately you should have no problem getting a lower bowl ticket -- wish I were saying no way, big game today, you'll be lucky to get a ticket at all.
Near sellout...........but not the case. Campus likely empty (all gone home to see high school girlfriends/boy friends) and Terre Haute folks are, well Terre Haute folks.
This game should be a good one with both teams looking to have pretty good years. Realistically there should be 6,000 -- 7,000 there at least.
But more likely 3500 to 4500.
I will say this, I was at the Green Bay game and the crowd, while small, was into the game. Best energy I felt in Hulman Center in a while.
And the updates --- lighting, sound, seating, and especially the new video boards are really nice. As always, the best basketball arena to watch a game in all of Indiana. Mackey Arena --- great crowds, loud, but bench seats ??? IU --- are you kidding me......two large theatrical auditoriums smashed together with a basketball court squeezed in between them. Notre Dame --- gotta say pretty nice, blows Hulman away with the concourse graphics and visuals (ISU is not allowed to put anything around the concourse about sports, etc. -- not allowed .......believe it or not.....no graphics, pictures, etc.
True Story). Hinkle, because of the history is very cool and the updates well done ....when the Bulldogs are good its great.
But Hulman Center now just needs one additional component ------
About 6000 more butts in the seats.

Three players who were out of Monday’s game will be in uniform this afternoon, Schertz said. They include 6-9 forward Cade McKnight, a Truman State transfer; 6-10 freshman center Robbie Avila; and 5-10 freshman guard Rob Martin. “So that’s the first time we’ve had that,” Schertz said.

Nailed it.

You'll be able to get stuff in the lower corners...the middle area is tougher to get tix as they are season ticket holders who would rather let the seat be empty.

Question...are we boycotting the new city garage for being erected to block our beautiful new front door? Im morally conflicted...I want to park there but I also want to burn it down.

Thanks for the info Badenboy and Huff. Heading to the Haute now. Going to have to make a pit stop at the Bally first.

I always look forward to this game like a conference game. The snow today should help attendance. Not much to do on a cold snowy day. Unfortunately I can't make it. I have the funeral of a former coworker to attend. I'll get part of it on the radio. Looking for some home cooked fried chicken (cardinal).
