Someone posted on the Rice message board that they were in the 300s last year in defensive efficiency and are still in the 300s so far this year.

Not sure where State ranks but it has to be better than that.

Per kenpom, rice is 289 and isu is 157 in defensive efficiency. Since it’s still pretty early those rankings are probably more reflective of where they were last year. However, rice is giving up 66.7% 2p fg in 2 d1 games. Their weakness looks like ISUs calling card right now.

I know it’s oversimplified but isu should be way better than rice at putting the ball in the hoop based on the numbers I’m seeing. I have no idea how those 2 teams fit together stylistically. I think rice (or Pepperdine) might be the worst team in this field but Rice are an experienced team that brought a lot back from a fairly mediocre team from a year ago.

I don’t want to be too dismissive of rice. They seem to have above average offense and really bad defense. We might see a fairly high scoring game from both teams. Could be a shootout. Those types of games could go either way if outside shots aren’t falling for either team.

I am having vibes of the ODU game a couple years ago in Myrtle Beach. ODU's inability to stop paint touches was a calling card for our success. If Rice can't keep our cutters from getting paint touches or collapse and let our shooters fet hot from 3, it could be another long day for our opponent. I hope our defense continues to improve, as I expect it to, just to help stem the tide when shots don't fall. Looking forward to this one.
 
Whatever the spread is I will be taking Indiana State to cover or win ML if we are underdogs. Happy to finally be playing a more like minded opponent. I wish we could get a nice high mid major game on calendar earlier in the year

Just read that.

Also saw their concern for the Evee kid. Looked at his stats and he is shooting 15-20% under his career average. He seems prime to revert to the mean so I hope he doesn't have that game against us.
 
Ok I have been looking for the line as of this afternoon on the Rice V ISU Game. I could not find it on Bet MGM or Draft Kings. I could have sworn i saw us -3.5???? Has anyone seen an updated?????

This is what I’m most interested in watching with this matchup, too. Fiedler is a legit big, and frankly is going to take everything we have to slow down in the paint and on the boards. I’m guessing their fans are saying the same thing too, though.

Rice has some good individual players like Mason, Evee and Seldon, but I don’t see a ton of depth behind those guys. And, as others have mentioned, they are not a good defensive team. They especially appear to struggle with transition defense, which at our pace we like to play will be the death of them.

I think this will be a very high scoring game where both teams will make their runs. We ultimate win by 5+.

Is it just basketball or betting on anything? Sounds good, I usually use BetMGM but not married to them by any means.

Anything…they just rolled it out so have a big promo to add people. Usually those kind of promos are choose one, but here you get both. The interface is pretty nice too
