We are now officially under a month from basketball action. Figured I may as well throw up a thread for our exhibition game that kicks off the Schertz era.

We should be playing a D2 in an exhibition game at the bare minimum. There is such a huge gap between D1 and D3 that this game does nothing for us. It's a complete waste of time. The only thing this game accomplishes is that ISU's ticket office gets to maybe sell a couple thousand tickets.

I'll also add that when Belmont and hopefully Murray State join the MVC, I seriously hope we play a round robin 22 game schedule and only play D1 schools in the non-con (D2 in exhibition). I know I wouldn't waste my hard earned money watching us play Rose, Hanover, or Oakland City.

FWIW - Oakland City is now an NAIA school; closer to Div II than D3

the only important thing in an exhibition game is no Tree gets injured

It’s an exhibition, my man. Every other school plays at least one. Why wouldn’t we make it against the team right down the road?

As a RHIT grad I appreciate the fact ISU is willing to give Rose this opportunity. If played on the Rose campus it would be better serving to create a more compact crowd with greater energy around the floor. It would also give ISU some sense of a road game before the real season starts.

Anyhow, to the game, I think my biggest interest is to see the difference in offensive movement and how things will flow.

If we actually shoot the ball well in the first 5 minutes of the game that will be the biggest difference to me... I want to see that we start fast and look like a D1 college basketball team playing Rose. If we're truly playing a more uptempo style of play then it should be very obvious in the first 5 minutes of game. Because the last several years we've half courted Rose to death - because that was our style of play...

My biggest interest is how we defend, and how we use our defense to lead to transition and well-paced offense. It's hard to play fast if you're always inbounding the ball after the other team made a basket.

That’s almost a verbatim Josh Schertz quote! Great minds…

You mean working for the first 15 seconds of the shot clock trying to find an entry pass into a poorly positioned post player isn't a good use of a possession?
