Sycamore blue is.....

a lot like North Carolina blue....kind of a light shade of blue...but not really light blue.....I've heard it called sky blue.......

We need a ruling from Dr. Bradley, RP, the Trustees and the SGA...

Not the definitive source but: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Shades_of_blue
displays a lot of the different shades...

My favorites (in no particular order...) Persian Blue, Cobalt Blue, Dark Blue, Egyptian Blue, Klein Blue, Navy Blue, Ultramarine and Yale Blue; I could probably support Cerulean, Steel Blue and maybe (just maybe the Air Force Blue) Even the shade of Royal Blue displayed isn't too bad.

As to the decision that TJames raises...

WTH?! Schizophrenic!

And while it's 'old'...the University's own webpage states: "In 1899, it was announced that Yale Blue and White would replace the colors of Salmon Pink and White. The colors are also applied to the Blue and White Parade and the Blue and White Dance held during Homecoming each fall." http://www.indstate.edu/whyisu/history_trad.htm.

So when / why did it go from Yale Blue to some pastel shade of blue like Columbia / Carolina / Sky / Powder / Periwinkle...

Sorry, but I only expect to see pastel blue on Easter Eggs, robin's eggs and babys; NOT Div I Athletes!

I don't have much of an issue with differing shades of blue. What I have a problem with is the use of orange, green, red, etc. Next time any of you are in TH, go to the Cunningham Memorial Library. Look around, all the countertops are red, virtually everything in that place is red. That I have a problem with. If ISU wants to use Carolina Blue, great. If they want to use Royal use Royal..but they need to decide on one specific blue color as the official color and then accent with the others.

And what do you know, there are actually shades of blue that are blacker than navy blue.

If it's Carolina blue most of our sports teams are WAY off! To me, royal blue is a little darker than the blue shown there. I like something more in the realm of persian blue.

Didn't somehow mention months ago that there is a subversive plot on campus to nudge State into the 'iu camp'... :violent: :evileye: :jawdrop:

There should be NO red, NO black, NO old gold, NO green on campus in any OFFICAL capacity

The royal blue on this message board is actually pretty consistent with the actual color (royal blue seems to vary from place to place - the Colts uniforms even did for years with the shade getting lighter and lighter until they fixed it a few years ago). My ISU sweatshirt is royal blue and I guess some might consider it a little bright. I like it myself. Navy blue is basically black.

Royal:

Navy:

The blue here is slightly darker just because the official ISU blue is pretty bright as shown in the PDF below and would make it very hard to read the forums if used.

Hers the deal, their is no money to be made by selling ISU gear! If their was, they would sell it! Im not mr. ovious here--come on man- get a clue on this. Who in their right mind wants a ISU football t-shirt?
Me. I've bought about 3-4 ISU shirts in the last month because my old faithfuls have finally kicked the bucket due to age. Additionally, I'd be elated to have Sycamore shirts like the following two designs available:

Indiana State football in ash grey with blue lettering, please.

In Sycamore blue, please.

Clearly the university and the students need to just step aside and let 4Q and I hammer out some sort of agreement on what the color should be.:)

4Q...I would say about 10 years ago or so, ISU (not athletics but the school) started using green, orange, red, etc. in thier marketing and decorations on campus. The Commons in HMSU had every color of the rainbow..it is currently undergoing a very slow renovation to be all Blue, Gray and white. The commons have gotten new colors on the walls, ceiling hangings, and will get new benches, new cushions and new tile on the pillars which will be blue and white. But that is part of the old regime under Benjamin. Everything on that campus should be blue and white....I dont' really care what blue, but blue and white. Things appear to be moving in the right direction with that...but still whomever made the decisions certainly was not thinking in terms of ISU, they were just thinking in terms of what they thought would look good.

It is amazing that this topic has gotten to this point. It started as a question about numbers on the side of the football helmet.

You're right Sack.....I just looooove to stir the pot...lol....

by asking about numbers on the side of the helmet...lol.....

I'm OK with that scenario!! Who has Dr. Bradley's phone number!?!

As to the rainbow around campus?! I can only ask why? Let's be brutally honest; State (and much of T-H) isnt' the PRETTIEST campus (or town) in Indiana, I'm OK with that but there's no reason, State could WORK to make it prettier.

I was STUNNED when I saw Parsons Hall (the new one) I couldn't believe that SOMEONE at State 'got it right.' It's identical to the 'south wing' of Tirey. Granted Rankin looks like it was plopped on top of it but THANK GOD they did Parsons correct. (For those viewers at home, I'm old enough to remember THIS Parsons...http://www1.indstate.edu/archives/architecture/buildings/parsons/parsons.htm)

I'm hopeful w/ Dr. Bradley's vision that when Normal Hall is renovated, they 'do it right.'
Ideally, that eyesore of an addition will be razed and return it to this: http://www1.indstate.edu/archives/architecture/buildings/normal/normalhall.htm

But now, let's return to the ORIGINAL question -- Yes, I like the numbers on the side of the helmets. Let's make sure the shade of blue is royal or DARKER; NO PASTELS! JUST SAY NO!!
