Yeah, he's been a real program boost.

My post was less about Burnett and more about his recruiting process and how it ties in with the trend I've noticed (i.e. Etherington is another example).

In defense, Brandon Burnett was one of the bright spots for us at the end of the year last year; one of the only players who decided he wanted to play at Arch Madness. He played his heart out and played well. If you didn't notice that, we must have been watching two different teams.

Good Luck Mr. McIntosh! (come to ISU, come to ISU)

As for Brandon Burnett....completely agree, he was absolutely showing some very positive signs at the end of the season.

I think Burnett is going to be good player for us down the road.

I think he is a step slow to do much at this level and hasn't proved that he can consistantly make the shots.

Just basing it off what I have seen - not sure who has seen something that would suggest other wise??

This is probably not the thread to discuss Burnett's game but what the hell.. He was suppose to be a shooter/scorer coming into ISU and he did not prove he was much of a shooter in his brief action last season. That being said you can tell he has a nose for scoring. He gets some buckets while he is out there even though his shot wasn't falling. Also like his energy on the floor and on the bench. I love guys who are scholarship guys and still go nuts for their teammates even when they are not getting big minutes.

We know at this point he is a step or two slow on D but maybe he is a decent shooter? Tough to tell on a guy who played less than 100 minutes last season. Small samples of shooting can be deceiving sometimes. Aaron Carter's game did not impress most people his first couple seasons but became a very very good player for us. I don't have a lot of expectations for Brandon next season or even the next but im not going to say he flat out cant play just yet. You could tell the minute Rhett Smith hit the floor he had no shot in the valley. Burnett is a guy down the road who needs a second look to make a final decision.

I'm not disagreeing with you but remember he is something like 225 pounds and I think he jumps pretty good. I think he can contribute at the 4 for us.

Thread has been hijacked.
And moved.

As to the hijack, the jury is out on Burnett. Unfortunately for him, he is stuck behind quite a few guys are both the 3 and 4 positions. How far he can bring himself along this Summer will go a long way towards the PT he gets next year.

Because we've had so much discussion going on... It really matters what topic people post on as long as they are posting, my feelings...

Burnett has a long way to go before he is getting good chuncks of PT, I've seen these guys practice and play BB lacks the intensity and energy necessary to play D in a Greg Lansing system - say what you will about his ability to shoot or get to the rim, Lansing want guys who can defend and guys blow past BB time and time again so far and if you haven't seen thay you haven't been watching the right things.

I saw guys blow by Menser when he was a freshman too.

He may or may not help down the road. Maybe, if nothing else, he can provide experienced depth.

And he's the only one? Our biggest problem has been guys who are slow on defense. One of them transferred, but his ability to score helped make up for that glaring deficiency. When we're at our best the guys are playing good help defense. When we don't, we have many players watching guys blow past them.

Good point. If you play pressure D on the ball, he will get by you. It's the whole team's responsibility to cover.

Maybe Burnett will be good, maybe not. My point was that his recruitment and lack of success to this point are hardly a blueprint for recruiting as was suggested.

Wonder if Coach ever thought about playing some of the "Syracuse Zone" to make up for all of our slow afoot guys? Sure seems to work well for Boeheim, particularly vs teams that don't see it often. Give our Valley brethren something special to prepare for when they see us.

I dont think most of our guys are that slow. Rj and rhett were and their gone. Burnett lacks footspeed but the rest move pretty well. Kitchell is probably next but he is adequate for how big he is. I think most of our issues on defense were mental errors.

I don't even see our defense as the biggest issue. It was much more consistant compared to the other side of the ball. Guys need to knock down open looks more often and make less bonehead TO's for us to get better.

There is little question though that we're at our best when the defensive intensity and smart defense is there throughout. In most losses, it wasn't. We don't have much offensive firepower or consistency, so many times the defense has to play at a near perfect level.

That's the problem. If we have to play near perfect defense to win games then that says to me you need better offense. Its alright to have defense be our MO but to solely rely on it to make up for our offensive ineptness is risky. We are going to see another rollar coaster season if that happens again imo.

I agree, but it's been that way for a few years now. Every season we have to play great defense to compete because we don't have elite, or even very good/consistent scorers.
