Making a poll to see what everyone's thoughts on this are.

My vote after a lot of thought on this is that it would be better for ISU if the MVC held at 11 and played a full round robin (20 games). It is still my firm belief that a "Thursday" team has a very minimal chance of winning the tournament, and I believe that we have a lot better of a chance of finishing in the top 5 every year than in the top 4.

The only way I would be in favor of replacing Missouri State is if the MVC replaced them with another football school to keep the MVC at an even 6-6 fb / non-fb split, and we all know that's not very likely to happen. If the conference is just going to add a St Thomas, Northern KY, UW Milwaukee, UT Arlington, or Kansas City then I'm sorry, but I just don't see how that benefits us in any way. The only schools I'd even be interested in the conference adding at this point would be UT Chattanooga, SE Missouri State, or South Dakota State.

Mo state has always sucked so they shouldn't be too hard to replace. I know they always have good girls basketball but who watches that anyway. Imagine the shooting percentage the guys would have if they got to shoot with a boys club sized ball. I really don't care if they get replaced or not.
 
I am much more in favor of dropping down to ten teams. Only 4 teams would them be in the play in games on Thursday. This is the way it was for years. Only hope for this is Illinois State or another choosing to go to MAC and move up in football.
 
I read a Mac news story about NIU leaving and possibly replacements. Illinois State was mentioned in the article but not in a good way. Their stadium is too small for the Mac as it is currently configured. Doesn't mean they can't spend a few million and close in an end zone.
 
So for those of you that have voted to replace MSU, which team(s) do you want and how does adding them benefit ISU?
 
I miss the true round robin. Stay at 11 until you can hit a home run addition.

No it's not. We currently play a 20 game conference schedule. 11 team conference means you are playing 10 teams x 2 = 20. We will get rid of the 1 time home and away and go back to a true round robin.
 
Add Northern Kentucky, then add Weight State when another idiot AD decides to dump all the money they don’t have in to FBS football. Then, move Arch Madness to Indy. Yes, Indy has became a total s—t hole, but not nearly as big a s—t hole as St. Louis!

I love that idea!!!

My hometown of Indianapolis is and remains one of the best sports venues in the world. A vibrant downtown, excellent facilities, great infrastructure.

I dont think there are any 'homerun' additions left out there. Would mean a move from the A10 or from FBS realignment. Toledo could have been great if they went to the MWC and we scooped up their Olympic sports.

St Thomas is a homerun imo. Major media market, 1 of 2 D1 in Minnesota, willing to spend. Sleepers imo are NKU, Wright State, Omaha, and Milwaukee.

It'll probably be UMKC though..

The MAC needs to pump the brakes when half of their teams buy out tix because of attendance. They only need 10-15k seat stadiums.

Agree with your first point.

I'm sure St. Thomas would be a homerun. Just not interested in more private schools. Unlike the others, they at least do sponsor football. IF that is the best we could do, then it would have to come with a mandate that they move from the PFL to MVFC. That said, they've raised so much money, they may have bigger aspirations.

Sac State definitely has bigger aspirations and it hasn’t landed them an FBS invite, yet. The MWC went with UC Davis instead.

Honestly the aftermath of the FCS/FBS divide will decide a lot of this. I think it would smart to ensure that the MVC stays at a healthy amount of members.

I still really, really struggle and dislike the fractured nature of our conference. It makes no sense to continue to operate this way in today's landscape. Also, I don't disagree with keeping up membership, but IMO, I try to compact the league. If NDSU/SDSU aren't/weren't good enough, then St. Thomas shouldn't be.

I think all members, in both conferences, should go to the MVC/MVFC and ask for a 10 year plan/vision. We really need some fucking leadership to say "here is where we're going" and I've yet to see it done. Hell, I could make a case that it probably makes sense for the MVC/Summit/Horizon work together to even consider trading members to form the strongest conferences for their sport sponsorship. Would be a wild concept and probably would take a lot of swallowing of ego, but alas, nothing is likely to change so...

Here is how I rank possible additions based on status quo:

1) Public school with FCS football. If not in MVFC, must transition there within a couple years.
2) Public school with no football.
3) Private school with FCS football. If not in MVFC, must transition there within a couple years.
4) Private school with no football.

Last thing we need to is to keep adding privates that will just double spend everyone else and take advantage of our circumstances. As we have seen, it hasn't benefitted the conference in doing that over the last several years with multiple bids despite being top third and it certainly hasn't helped us individually.

Lastly, if the MVC/MVFC brass don't have a long term vision, I'm honestly open to us moving to a different conference at this point. I'd rather be a big fish in a smaller pond and be a consistent winner with a great shot a making the tournament versus having a good year every so often in the MVC. Before we just had to deal with being outspent institutionally and now we have the NIL spend vector.
 
The 10-team MVC minus Valpo is the absolute perfect conference. This will sound mean, but it would really help if Valpo demotes themselves to the Horizon League or out of Division 1. They are so far over their heads.

Until then, don’t do anything.

I’m glad Missouri St is out. They’re faraway, have no rivalries, have no fan base, and drag down the league.

You're correct. But selfishly I want Valpo in the conference. There is quite a bit of sycamore fans that show up to that game in Northwest Indiana. Take away that game and they provide very little for the conference and institutionally have been a disaster since they came to the MVC.

The Valley grabbing Valpo when Murray had Ja Morant was an enormous fumble.
