Is he sporting a Rolex on the field?

Apparently so. Hate that these student-athletes can't even afford to eat, aren't you?

BTW, some are saying it's photoshopped but I found it hilarious myself because this is something I'd expect from BCS level athletes who can't "afford to eat" but are driving around in 40-50k cars.

I don't think it was photo shopped. It appeared on the Oregon school paper online (Daily Emerald) and is credited to one of the photographers of that site.

Does make you wonder why you would need to wear a watch during warm ups, but I am glad to see he is someone who obviously cares about being punctual. That is an important skill for young people to develop. Good for him.

Yeah, that's it. Punctuality.

An ISU athlete living off campus gets $600 a month for room and board deposited into his checking acount monthly. Plenty of pizza and burger money left after paying his rent. That amount is not universal at every D1 school. A Northwestern athlete for instance will get $1,500 a month for room and board. That is based partly on the cost of living in the North Chicago suburbs as oppossed to Terre Haute. Don't tell me athletes dont get paid, a smart athlete at ISU could buy a house on a street South of campus collect rent fron 2 or 3 teamates to help pay the mortgage. Now he is the owner of an investment property, has a place to live with plenty of money left over for "living" expenses. Intelligent athletes can make that money go along way with a bit of maturity and guidance from smart parents.

I get your point about spending their money wisely and agree, but not sure about the house thing and the idea they can come out ahead. I guess some athletes could go in on a house together but they'd have to be very careful not to end up with something they can't get out from under at the end of four years. Probably just as easy to pool money to rent an apartment because you're not going to get much profit out of the house unless you bust ass between classes, studying and competing and flip it.

IMHO:
Agreed, A good solid rental with football friends was the route I preferred because it allows you to focus on the important things. Grades! Having maintenance distractions etc... as a student athlete is not worth it. Focus on whats in front of you and in the end you will attain your goals.

As far as the watch goes. Most people have no time for those folks. You can't miss them. They attract the worst kind.
I'm not sure who said it first but "show me your friends and I'll show you your future" seems quite appropriate.

How could you tell he is wearing a Nike Jersey? Oh...that's right, the logo. Rolex watches have very distinct faces - just like a logo. And the band tells you as well....of course it could be a fake, but it doesn't look like it is a fake

As for an investment property. I fully agree and think that any student is smart to do that. Even if a student can't "flip" it after their time in the Haute, they can still rent it out and make money until they find a buyer (their will always be a buyer dependent upon price and location). Its the smart, sound investment of money and a very simple way to make some easy money. It is what I will most certainly do if any of my children go to ISU and most definitely what I should have done. My roommates and I spent over $30K in 3 years on a small apartment - if we had gone and gotten a loan together and bought a house that would sleep 6, we would have not paid any rent in the long run because the other 3 roommates would have covered the mortgage. Then after we graduated, we could easily have rented out a 6 bedroom house for $1800 to $2000 per month, not only covering the mortgage but making money. Sure there would be maintenance costs..but provided you do things the right way and you plan maintenance and you build reserves, you can make a nice bit of money by owning rentals. I do right now...in Indy.

Last little word...someone mentioned students focusing on studies, I agree. But, there is no better educational opportunity than to own a business. Owning a rental is just that, owning a small business but there is little risk to it. Why not?

From what I've heard most of the landlords and homeowners anywhere near the campus are---well lets just say awfully proud of their properties. Not sure what you could fine in the reasonable area that wouldn't be consider a real dive!
If you want to maximize your $$$$$'s and do as SACKALOT suggest then wouldn't it make sense to buy a house outside of town --say West Terre haute---in order to better utilize available $$$$! You may now be able to make a profit in a few yrs---but u bought at a much lower price and lived there rent free as you would be able to resale for what u put into it!

You must have seen a better picture than I. The photo at the beginning of this thread does not tell you that he's wearing is a Rolex. There is nothing with the band or the face that will tell you it's a Rolex from afar.

My company awards Rolex's to every 10-year employee, so I own one and see many every day. The only distinctive quality that seperates a real Rolex from a fake is the perpetual second hand. It doesn't "click" at every second but rather moves in constant motion. You can't tell that from the picture.

If there is another photo or article that states it's a Rolex, please share. It looks like a cheap, fake gold watch to me.

Feel free to do some cursory searching on Google. Several Oregon Duck sites reported it and talked about it. I could be, but I'd be shocked if it were a fake. The kid is into jewelry big time and routinely also wears huge diamond earrings, chunky gold chains, etc. Considering he has now declared for the draft, I'm going to guess it was bought with advance money from his agent. According to some Oregon sites, he was also spotted in a luxury box at the Eagles/Saints game wearing it. I doubt he struts around in a fake... just my two cents.

Slum lords like Union Hospital/physician "investors" have a monopoly on TH substandard housing...can't believe the prices they have attached to some of these rentals. I lived "ocean to river" in Melbourne Beach, FL CHEAPER than TH. You explain, other than "supply/demand" scarcity principles...sure as hell has nothing to do w/ QUALITY of living environment. Funny, when I 1st returned to TH last Summer, SSOM put me touch w/ the Union Hospital Property Mgr., whose office was upstairs in a two-car garage. This asshole thought he was Donald Trump, no civility whatsoever...prices totally unrealistic for SLUMS near the hospital/ISU. He must've thought he was located top floor of Keystone @ the Crossing!

Thanks...all aspects for which I was unaware. It's probably real, then.

----strange that a guy with a "Penthouse Suite" for an office:razz:wouldn't have been willing to help a friend of SSOM! Wonder if was concerned about nepotism----when you told him that SSOM was your little brother!

He probably thought I rolling in the $$$ like SSOM, who was just trying to help out. I've been around douche bags in my day, and this one had been "cracked" for some time!:choocho:
