The Odum Level
I had to listen to most of the game today and am now watching the replay.

Obaseki and the defensive pass rush looked really good. Ben looked outstanding against Big 10 tackles. I think that was encouraging. Washington, Sewall, Archie and Roberts stood out as well, which is to be expected. The PSU players will feel some of those hits they took today. Sure our guys will feel them, too. The D played smart.

Good poise from Fouch most of the day. Had a few drops from his receivers. Our run blocking could have been better, but we were playing Penn State's front seven. That's about as good as it gets, usually, in college football.

Great job returning kicks today. Riston and the blocking looked great. We were consistently getting it out to the 30.

Also a good job of punting by Davis and good coverage. Came very close to a punt block!!! I see a lot of positives to take out of this game.

My scouting report on Penn State is that outside of their opening kick return for a touchdown they have serious special teams issues. Obviously their passing attack leaves a lot to be desired. As usual, they have a great defense.

I mean our D will be ok...but our offense was shut down by our own defense in the last scrimmage....what seems to be the problem....I don't even care to put up points..i thought they should have at least sustained drives....I can't hide it...i am disappointed in the O...Penn State has a very good D...but I thought we could have at least sustained a few good drives....I thought our O did not play with a sense of urgency...our WR ran to their spot settled and then the QB threw it and of course batted down....lots of things like that for the O in my opinion...

Have to remember though that the PSU defenders are much faster. I think the O will continue to get better. Our D is pretty good. Made big strides from last season, I think. Next week should help cure any deficiencies in the offense.

I really think our "D" might just be a whole lot better than anyone thought. They played well against a big, nasty Penn State o-line. If they play with that degree of intensity all season, we're going to be good. Does anyone think the PSU qb's thought they'd spend as much time on their arses as they did?

I don't take a whole lot away from the offense today. They were totally overwhelmed by the best defense that an ISU team has seen in at least ten years. We won't see any "d" that good for the rest of the season...

I know many Big 10 fans. They don't worry about Penn State's offense. They are scared of the D. At football's most basic level it comes down to who can run the ball and who can't. Who can dominate the line of scrimmage. In these David vs Goliath games, if one team can run and the other one can't, that's all that matters. We got some decent runs against their second team in the fourth and scored a touchdown with that balance. It all comes down to that. Outside of UNI and some of the other top caliber MVC teams we face this year, we'll be able to do a much better job of running the ball.

I was with Dad at hospice today and saw about 10 plays. Good to hear positives here; I didn't know how many we would have. It seems we should be OK for the most part. One thing I did notice in what I saw. We are a good looking team. Shoes, pants, jerseys, and helmets looked like we belonged on a big stage like this. I hope I am able to make it to Saturday's game--time will tell.

If I was a Penn State fan I would be pretty nervous for the Alabama game. Our defense got far more pressure on the QB than I expected. Alabama is going to KILL then with their pass rush. Penn State's o-line did a great job of run blocking but they were awful in pass protection.

Their kicker also sucks. They have a real problem there.

The Penn State fans were very gracious the entire time we were in State College, so I'm not going to bash the team. They will definitely have their hands full with Bama, and are sure to be at least a TD underdog. I will be hoping they win though.

Their kicker is deep in paternos doghouse

I agree totally with the comment about Penn State fans. We were lucky enough to land some sweet tickets on the Penn State ticket exchange at the last minute on Friday night. We sat in third row right behind sycamore bench with die hard Penn State season ticket holders. They were wonderful. They got a huge kick out of us. At end of game, they wished us luck this season. They then went on about how much class our players had when the sycamores came and saluted the groups of fans that came to support them by raising their helmets to the groups. What a great group of players we have, both on and off the field. That moment was nothing short of priceless......
