Can't believe that Drake didn't get an NIT bid...and ACCEPTED the CIT (trash post-season). Recall ISU's experience w/ this v. Robert Morris in Terre Haute? Didn't we have to pay something like $5k to host this game, and less than 2,500 attendance showed up for the LOSS?

You don't turn down post season play for your program.

You are an idiot coach if you do.

You get extra time with your team when all other schools have shut down. Every ounce of development counts.

I will die on this hill.

Oh how I wish this was our issue and not watching all of the tournaments from the couch.

Drake played on the road in the CIT against Northern Colorado in 2018 and lost 81-72. They seem willing to go to these tournaments and I can't really blame them as it's good practice against teams similar in talent. I think you have to pay to be in the CBI and CIT, but when you're already spending several million a year on the program, an extra $30k to play in a tournament is nothing. If ISU is ever in a position to accept a bid from either tournament I'd hope that we'd accept it.

All of the CBI games are played in Daytona Beach, so at least the fans will "be counting" the SPF factor on their suntan lotion...

What year did ISU play Robert Morris? Trying to determine how much propulsion impact this had on the subsequent season. I'm sure that the format change to Daytona Beach is a plus for both the teams & fans this time of year, and a boost to Volusia Co. Tourism.

We played them at the end of the 2011-2012 season. We followed that season up with 2 straight NIT bids, going 18-15 then 23-11 respectively. Then....well nevermind.

Five (5) of the thirty-two (32) TBC squads never even had winning season records::poop:

14-15 Detroit (Horizon)
11-15 MD-Eastern Shore (MEAC)
14-16 Merrimack (NEC)
13-14 Morgan St. (MEAC)
14-16 USC-Upstate (Big South)

Must've received auto bids by Eracism:

TBC (old CIT) Update

W Illinois (16-15)
@UTEP (19-13)
M-15 @ 7 PM ET

YSU's opponent and location still TBA. It appears so far 18 of their goal of 32 have accepted an invite. 7 schools declined an invite.
Morgan State (13-14)
@Youngstown St (18-14)

They don't even have a full bracket yet. Only 22 teams have accepted an invite so far, so they still need 10. I wouldn't be surprised if they just decide to roll with 24. In the future I bet they just have a 16 team bracket, since 32 is proving difficult to fill.

ISU get a bid? NET is likely too low...:ROFLMAO:
I think SIU and Valpo could be in the running if they wanted a bid. I read recently that Bradley is an NCAA or NIT only program.

I'm surprised Morehead State from the OVC hasn't accepted a bid yet, but maybe they don't want it. I'd like to see how far Johni Broome could take them.

Bankshot......I have a Globetrotters game program with Haynes autograph....as well as Connie Hawkins and Curly Neal.
Sad story re: Hawkin's alleged involvement in the '61 NCAA "Point Shaving" scandal, and his ultimate "blacklist" from basketball. With the proliferation of SPORTS BETTING, it'll be interesting to see how this is patrolled.

Could easily be a $$$ w/ Morehead; too bad the NCAA has glommed the NIT or the Eagles could have/should have landed there

NIT is (still) the only tournament/playoff system to NOT have a team w/ a losing record

NCAA
IHSAA
CBI
CiT/TBC
NFL
NBA
NFL
MLB
FBS Bowl "system"

all have taken teams with losing records, the NIT hasn't though since the NCAA now owns them, they've changed the rules to allow (force?) the NIT to take a sub .500 team

no team should decline a post-season bid - far too much to be gained in practice/development time

Did you know.....he was recruited to Iowa by Asst. coach Bob King.....the same Bob King that was at ISU.

Although only a Hawkeye Asst for a couple (2) yrs., he did have 2X All-Big Ten 1st Team member 6'6" DON NELSON, who later played for NBA Boston. Wonder if King recalled facing ex-ISU Asst Mel Garland/Purdue? Garland was 1st Team All-Big 10 the year after King left in '62-63. He played w/ TH Garfield/Purdue All-American Terry Dischinger and was their #2 scorer. Ohio State's Lucas/Havlicek/Siegfried also made life rough on the Hawkeyes during his short stint. ;)
