Since it looks like this rumor has longer legs this time around, I guess we should get this thread fired up again. Here is my short list for potential McKenna replacements:

Greg Lansing, associate head coach, Indiana State
Randy Bennett, coach, Saint Mary's
John Groce, coach, Ohio
Stew Morrill, coach, Utah State
Mark Montgomery, associate head coach, Michigan State
Scott Sutton, coach, Oral Roberts

Recommended candidates in the thread:

Todd Lickliter, former Butler and Iowa head coach
Vince Taylor, assistant coach, Minnesota
Paul Lusk, associate head coach, Purdue

At this point, I think you're going to be stuck with Lansing whether you want him or not.

Groce would be a huge get, however, would he leave Ohio for Indiana State? That's a lateral move at best...

You don't think the MVC is a better conference to coach in? That was kind of my theory. Plus he has Indiana roots and loves to recruit here -- would be an easy sell for him.

my suggestion

Vince Taylor. Assistant coach for Tubby Smith now at Minnesota; coached at UL under Pitino; played at Duke; from Lexington, KY; great experience at MAJOR programs and hungry for that head job. I think he would bring something FRESH to the program that we need!! Lansing is a bad idea in my humble opinion.

Not a fan. Why do you like him?

I saw this guy take decent players and turn them into great players...My sister was at Butler in his heyday...I would go for combining him with our talent....any day....recruiting is mostly done by assistants anyway...combine him with lansing...I think we have a good combo....

Like who? Also, what happened at Iowa?

I like this thought....

Paul Lusk, Associate Head Coach, Purdue (Pipe Dream...but that's what we're doing here, right?

Here's his bio

My Vince Taylor one isn't a pipe dream though. It absolutely could happen. Another assistant at Minnesota's brother is an ISU grad. They have talked about it and Vince would be very interested. They talked about when the McKenna to Creighton rumors were out there.

I'd be totally fine with that.

Could be a good one, but I would have to think you lose Lansing in that scenario, and then you have to wonder about the recruits, as Lansing was heavily involved in each of their recruitments...

I don't see Lansing staying as an assistant. I think if he doesn't get a head coaching spot, he's going to seek an opportunity elsewhere.
